Is there a way to get the lever that goes into the steering wheel to fit in the slot without taking steering wheel coulimn apart. I am going from the floor back to the column in my 69 and I got the linkage to transmission and the rod up to the steering bracket. I can even just stick the lever part way in and change gears. But it does not want to go in far enough to be able to drop pin in. Also it is not changing the red pointer from P to R, N,D,... Anyone know how to do this?

YOu have to kinda wiggle it around until it falls into place. The shift indicator cable may be broken. There is a little wire attached to the column with a clip and a screw. You have to remove the lower column cover to access it.
