Hey group. i have a 200 4r and i believe my stall is lower than i wanted/sold the wrong part. how exactly can i check the stall with the trans in a running car.

the car is 383 with a comp xe 284 and 4.11 rear gears. stall was supposed to be between 2400 and 2800. car seems sluggish of line, more so than a strong 383 with 4.11 should be. thanks tommy

Hold the brakes hard, so the rears won't break loose, and slowly give it the gas. The point where the rpm's won't go up anymore is your stall speed. If you were to do that, then let off the brakes with the gas full throttled, you should get a couple hundred rpms more as soon as the brakes let off. This is called a flash stall, if I'm not mistaken. I usually don't practice that procedure, but some racers do. This will also happen when releasing a trans brake.

Hey Darren, when you say wont go up any more do you mean the car wants to start moving and or tires spinning? tommy

Actually, if done right, the car won't move, and the tires won't spin. Try setting the parking brake to help out. Don't do it for too long, generates a lot of heat.

Hmmmm, how about this method. This worked for me with a PG and manual valve body. With the car in high gear, say rolling along at a real slow speed, punch the throttle and where the tach flashes will be very near the stall. I don't know if this will work with a standard valve body? Maybe one of the automatic gurus will will have some thoughts on this. What does the company who made the converter say about checking???

Not real fond of the company that sold me the converter. i bought a trans from them and had some problems so just as well not go there. i believe the make is a dura-bull. they sold it with the trans to me. also believe stall at 2400 to 2800.

i had this motor in my lemans first and with 3:42's the car seemed quicker. i would think with the 4:11's it would have more pull. but maybe its just my imagination. i will play with it this weekend. thanks tommy
