Hi!! Been a long time since i posted. I'm looking to refresh my .30 over 72 402 with a new cam, carb, and intake this winter and was looking for cam recommendations. There's a lot of options out there! Has an old Crane energizer 272 in it now. .515 lift. It's in a 66 Chevelle, 65 206 closed chamber heads, KB pistons, approximately 10:1 CR, Forged crank, Hedman headers, Pypes 2 1/2" exhaust, Muncie 4 speed, 3.73 rear, Will be installing a Quick Fuel 750 DP and Performer RPM air gap. Looking for a hot street car and occasional strip use. Probably won't see over 6000 or 6200 rpm. I have always used flat tappet cams and have no experience with roller cams, but not opposed to one. Thanks for any input!

When I had my .030" over 402 in my '84 Cutlass with 3.42 gears I ran a comp cams 270 magnum hft. It was a fun all around cam on the street. I had originally tried the 280 magnum and it softened up the low end a bit much for me; but I was also running an automatic with a 2400 stall. Ran a 13.5 at Byron with a bad carb using the 280 mag.

You might want to look at some aftermarket heads to really wake it up and if the heads are the old "I needed leaded fuel design" you might use that as motive too. A good set of heads will wake it up 50 hp or more depending on application compared to stock OEM heads. By the time you port the heads and change over to unleaded seats you are much of the way there to a set of heads. The aluminum is 70 pounds lighter. If you are getting new pistons this is time for heads as most of them are designed for the 119 cc chamber. Go roller if you can too. Budget of course is a consideration. If you want to add power the time is now in the rebuild.
