if you just want to get it running, then get the parts you need from a junkyard for cheap.
then you can upgrade to the fancy aftermarket stuff down the road once you know everything is in working order...
did you get the broken intake bolt out yet?

Then scratch what you have in your 'cart'. It may cost a little more but will save you money AND aggravation in the end. Look more towards THESE items...

$1300 budget? find a $500 parts car that runs and get all the parts off that, haul the corpse away for scrap value. save the rest of the money you have budgeted to buy some fuzzy dice and a couple of tanks of gas.

just looked at your pic at the beginning of the thread, and that looks like a 76 and newer water pump to me, so you will have to keep that in mind when finding upper alternator and PS brackets. or you could get the proper pump for your year and model of car and go from there.

You really need to get the one for your car. You didn't say (or I missed it) what car this was.

Get a radiator that fits your car. I think the Summit ones are about $300, but its an aluminum radiator and will last a while. As for the carb, I had a 570 Holley Street Avenger on my 350, before I rebuilt it to a 383, and it ran beautifully. Just a quick question though, have you checked the rest of the internals of the engine?

Again what year is this car? DO YOU EVEN KNOW IF THIS MOTOR RUNS. It would help all of us suggesting parts to you if we knew what you were working on.

The Junkyard suggestion is the best one I have heard on here yet. Go pull yourself some parts from a wrecking yard. Such as pulleys and brackets and such stuff like that. You can paint them and make them look good. Try to find someone who has a car like yours and take a bunch of pictures of how stuff is situated so you can actually look at them when you need a referance to how something is suppose to fit.

You will go through your $1300 budget in a hurry ordering stuff off the internet. Craigslist is another very valuable tool and parts source if you know what your looking for.

I've gone to ebaymotors.com a bunch of times just to look up vehicles and see how a certain piece or accessory was situated. I'd think there will be a bunch of underhood pics of 68-72 Chevelles. Most sellers are eager to impress with motor shots and some of them show good detail shots. Keep posting as it will be fun to see it all come together.

I haven't read this post in detail but if you have tightened bolts enough to break them I'd bet you warped that nice intake. Read everything you can search here and/or Google first before you get started. Autozone will loan you a torque wrench... Good Luck

i disagree- if a radiator fits and keeps it cool, it's "good enough".. my 400 (or so) hp Nova was kept cool by a very used and kind of crusty looking 2 core radiator i took out or a 69 Nova with a 6 cylinder. i didn't even have a fan shroud on it for the first year i had that motor in it.

the intake is fine- i'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that those bolts were the cheapest ones they had at the hardware store and the bolt probably broke with 20ft lbs of torque on it- i've seen a LOT of bolts that say "RUSSELL" on the heads break just like that with almost no torque on them. i've broken a few of them with nothing more than my 9/16" wrench. throw them in the garbage and replace them with some real grade 5's of the proper length and it will be good.

Now would be a good time to replace your water pump. Rebuilt pumps at Autozone or O'reilleys are cheap and sometimes with a lifetime guarantee. Save your receipts if you plan on keeping the car for some years.
You can probably plan on replacing the heater core also while you are in this deep.
Broken bolts are common for a novice. If you are using a 1/2" drive socket wrench, get a 3/8". It can be used for all assembly and you will not break as many bolts with it. Take it easy and use a borrowed TORQUE WRENCH on your fasteners.
When you go to the junkyard, pick up any bolts and nuts that are laying near your parts car. Throw them in your toolbox. You are not only missing the main parts you are probably missing a lot of bolts and fasteners that are necessary to reassemble your ride.
