Im trying to hook up a toggle switch and relay for my dash guage lights and also one for my fan. I found a pretty simple diagram for a basic relay, I think its a 4 prong relay 85, 86, 87, 30 (radio shack auto relay). I sware I hooked it up right, and tried a toggle switch I had laying around (maybe the problem) its just an on/off single throw toggle switch with 2 terminals a power and ground. I hooked my lights to it and got nothing. Someone have any tips or diagrams? Also not sure what type of toggle switches I can use here, I know the load goes through the relay and not the switch so the rating isnt AS important on the switch... if wired properly... anyways, help!
Thanks... in advance.

.................its just an on/off single throw toggle switch with 2 terminals a power and ground..........
A SPST switch would have either a power feed and load or a ground feed and load, couldn't have both power and ground.

What exactly do you want to do, have one toggle switch operate one DPST relay?

Doh! Still fuse it with a relay? I wasnt sure, I have this wire coming up to my dash from the trunk (battery in trunk) I think its a fused lined already, is that ok? So far its a success! It actually works.... how nice it is.

You installed a painless harness?
Not sure why you would want a toggle for the dash lights, it can also be wired so the dash lights come on with the headlight switch.

30 Battery power
87 To dash lights
86 Parking lamp power
85 To ground

How big is this wire, what does it feed and how many amps is the fuse? Individual circuits should always have their own fuse.

FYI, I have the same amount of gauges you do. The power for them came from the LMPS post in the fuse box. This allows me to use the dimmer control. Worth a shot unless you don't have the headlight switch in the car.

Its just the actual lights in the guages, nothin' more... it seems to be working out fine. Maybe my imagination but they seemed dimmer than before, maybe a bad ground, because it seemed to have went away... for the time being.
