Help - Tire/Rim size question for 70 SS

I have a dilemia. I just recently bought 18x8'' Foose Rims for my chevelle. Now that I have them installed, the back tires just look too small. I'm using a 245x40 tire. I would like to get a 10'' tire on my back wheels, but Foose does not make 18x10'' rims. They only make a 20''x10''.

What is the biggest tire I would be able to put on a 20''x10'' Rim? Or, what can I do with my current rim to give it a much larger appearance (and wider) in the back?

If you stay with your current wheels, there are 255, 265, and 275 width 18" tires available. A 245-40 is too narrow and too short for the rear of your car. I have seen 275-40's on cars but I think they were on 9" wheels.

Thanks for the replay with pics. I ended up keeping my 18x8's and getting a really wide/tall tire. I'm at about 27'' height and 9.5'' width with the wheels my local tire shop recommended.

Your car looks really sharp though, I like the paint. What did that set you back?

Ryan,

The car was a roller when I got it. The first picture was the paint job the previous owner had done. OK, but not really show quality. I put in the 468 BBC, TKO600, CPP brakes, and new suspension and sent it to Murphy's Restoration to be finished up.

The paint job alone is about $12-$13k. A little pricey, however, these guys have a good reputation and have had several winning cars at some big shows (Goodguys).

Thanks,

Eric
