Been Chevelle-less for a few years now and have been looking for a 70 or older driver for $10-12K but no luck. All I find here in upstate NY is torn apart projects for driver car prices. Anyone else having the same problem. People with "Barrett Jackson Disease" are running rampant and out of control. Some idiots want $7000 for a bare shell with all the parts that needs total resto just cause they bought a few new pieces of sheet metal for it. Ridiculous!!!!

There are complete, running drivers for "reasonable" prices.
I understand looking in your locality so you can go look at the car, but you may have to expand your search.

A lot of people on the forum are willing to go look at cars and provide their opinion.

You might consider that.

you need to look out of your area
be prepared to fly out and drive it home
there are still many cars that are needing minor TLC in other states that will be ok for you..
BJ-$$greed is all over, but not everyone has heard about this :(

Heres a cool story. A 71 chevelle pops up on craigslist early in the week in phoenix. Guys asking 9K for it. its the original green color, 350 th350 10 bolt disc brakes bench seat car. NO rust, original paint, seats carpet etc. Even has the 14 inch wheels with the full size hubcaps. The guy tells my friend he got 3 calls all week. My friend calls and they agree on 7200 for the car if its what the guy says it it. We take a trailer up and look at it. Its also a AC car but like the gent said its all original, was his dads from day one. We actually got to drive it up on the trailer (nice change) took it back to tucson, unloaded it and my buddy drove me home in it. He found a AC hose that had a hole in it the next day, changed it and now cruizing in a clean technically a 3rd owner 71 chevelle!
What we couldnt understand is why such a unmolested chevelle would sit on CL for a week without somebody going to look at it. A few people in town saw pics and didnt want to make the drive. Now that its in town and driving with air, he's turned down 9K for it. So deals are out there, you just have to be willing to travel to find them. jim

There are deals out there. You have to have cash and be ready to move. The Barrett Jackson Disease you refer to is often acquired when you get one of these cars yourself. Serious sellers will entertain offers. You need to treat people with respect and courtesy when you play the game. Check out these cars:

http://newyork.craigslist.org/fct/cto/4517265698.html

They are in your neck of the woods, took me about 3 mins to round up links, the hard part is narrowing it down and getting out there to check em out. It takes time and diligence, you will get your car. Be patient and don't settle for anything other than what you want, you will know when the right car presents itself. Good Luck and Happy hunting!

3rd one a Heavy Chevy???

I agree Ken, the car has way to much daylight in the panels. I do believe this car is a Heavy Chevy, unfortunately. 13437 begins the vin, acquired info from seller. Door and rear panels look like the real deal. Interior looks original enough, there may still be a build sheet in there somewhere.

Good luck on your quest. I lost a driver 70 Convertible for $16k last year so they are out there. Building two right now.

70 LS5 4 speed clone, I'll have $40k in that one.
70 LSx twin turbo car, that one will be 1500 rwhp and there will be $40k in that one as well. Both frame offs but far from total restorations.
