I decided yesterday that it's time for a new tank since mine has some small pinhole leaks in the seam that I can't find :eek: , and there is now a coat of varnish on part of my tank.
I figured since I have bigger plans for the car in the future, that I would go ahead and open up my wallet a little more and redo some other parts of the fuel system while I was at it.

Here are my questions.

How hard is it to run a new 1/2" hard line from the tank to the pump?

If I have bigger plans for the car, should I put a sump in the tank now while it's fresh and out of the car? or wait til later down the road?
Can you recommentd a good one with 1/2" fittings?

I'll take any hints, tips, or advice you guys feel like giving. Right now I'm gathering a parts list, and probably won't tackle this for a week or two.

Matt, I ran 1/2 inch hard line from front to rear. Its not that hard, but would be easier if you had access to a lift. I used insulated clamps to attach it to the frame. You can forget about feeding hard line through certain parts of the frame though. I have mine tucked up and routed nicely along the side of the frame, following the factory route. Most of the AN fitting companies make hard tube to AN adapter fittings. If I were you I would buy a new tank, and sump it. That makes it just as good as a fuel cell and you wont have to lose any trunk space.

As for the fuel filter, with a mechanical pump, should it be before or after the pump... or does it not matter?

Matt,

I bought some 1/2" Stainless Steel Instrument Tubing from a local supplier. Cost me about $50 (Canadian) for 20 feet. Im putting two fuel filters, one before the pump, and one just before the carb, its cheap insurance if you ask me.

I was looking at the CE sumps and you can get them with 3/8" or 1/2" NPT bungs. Then I was looking at AN to NPT adapters, and I can't find a -8AN to 1/2" NPT adapter. They are all -8AN to 3/8" NPT.

Someone straighten me out here. I will be running -8AN braided hose from the sump over to the framerail, then a 1/2" hardline down the frame... so I need the 1/2" bungs on the sump, and a 1/2" to -8AN adapter fitting for the bung right???

Oh well, I'll keep looking.

Next question: Should the sump be welded in at the lowest point in the tank, or at the very back? ... or should it go on that flat portion with no ridges kind of in the middle?

Can anyone post pics of their setup?

Man, I've got 4 out of the 6 posts in my own thread now :rolleyes: :D Sorry.

The sump usually goes at the lowest part of the tank with the fittings facing back. You just drill a couple of holes in the tank at the lowest point and then weld the sump over them.

Last question... i think.

Can anyone post pics of their sumped tanks from the back? I'm trying to get an idea of how I want to run the lines, and whether I want to paint it silver or black.

Also what is EEC, and do I want a tank with it or without?

EEC = evaporative emissions control, usually the charcoal cannister thingy on a closed ventilation system.
