I have found a guy with a 71 GTO frame. I have been told that all of the 68-72 A body frames are interchangable. Is this true? Anything I should know before I go look at it? It's a full rolling frame with front disc brakes. Thanks everybody!

If you are going from a 71 GTO to a 70 Chevelle, it will work fine.
Thanks man.

yes a monte carlo, that is a "A" body too, as is a grand prix too
I didnt know that the first gen Monte's and such were A bodies too.

There was a guy that had a '69 frame pretty complete and pretty solid at the Jefferson Swap Meet last weekend for only $300. Too bad you weren't a little closer.

I was seriously thinking about buying it and restoring it completely and then transfering my body onto it so my car wouldnt be disabled for however long.

They're not. They're BASED on the 'A" body; but so far as I know they're considered to be the "A-Special".

'68--'72 A body
The two door and convertibles have the same wheelbase; but the convertible frame is boxed for added strength.

The four-door, Wagon, and El Camino frames have the same wheelbase, (+4" over the 2-door) but the El Camino frame is boxed for added strength.

'70-'72 A Special
Monte Carlo and Grand Prix have additional length--I think it's ahead of the front wheels--for a longer hood (and that "55-gallon drum" of a fan shroud.)

I thought the Monte/GP were "G" bodies...

Yes, most 69-72 2 door coupe frames are the same.

so that means it's a "A" body, they are in the chevrolet "A" series assembly manual too

everybody says "A" body, GM calls them "A" series with the VIN # beginning with 13xxx, they are from the same family and share well over 75% of the same parts

It's behint the front wheels I believe.
