Is it overlapped and fully welded at just the top edge? If so, just trim off the shag from underneath. The work will still be obvious.

"How hard is it?" ...On a scale of what? We pretty much gotta see this to advise. I have no idea if you got a full pan or footwell patches or what.

It is possible to overlap honorably , but with plug welds. In some situations, I transition from overlap or overlap with step (with plug welds) to butt weld. All three ways are shown in this current task pic. Overlap with step at toe board, plain overlap inboard of seat bracket and aft of seat belt bolt, butt weld where most visible.

Was the old floor at least cut out then the new lapped over just the edges? Sounds like he made a mess of it... Pictures will help!
