Hi all

Bought a 67 Chevelle Malibu rust bucket because all the numbers match (apparently).

Because the numbers match, I'm going to have to leave the old engine in it but will need to rebuild it.

So, when do I go for Chevy 250 ci straight six parts? I want to rebuild the whole thing and also heard the guys in california are doing some remarkable stuff with these engines.

TIA
Michael

I like hot rodded sixes !!! try these guys http://www.cliffordperformance.net/
My buddies machine shop does a lot of 6 cyl work for the local circle track guys (and also a lot of not so local) These things can put out 300+ HP

Good Luck, Bill

You can supercharge it, turbo, inject.............whatever tickles your fancy ( and your wallet ).

Think you can get a smaller chamber head off a 194ci L6 to bump compression if I remember correctly.

I always wanted to build a hopped up L6 backed by an overdrive to see what kind of mileage I could get.

Good Luck!!

Unless the numbers matching for your car is a real issue I wouldn't spend the time or $$$ to rebuild a 6. I know some will give me heck for this. I had a 230 in my Malibu when I bought it. My dad and uncle thought 4 barrel carb, and split header. I thought no way.

I spent 600 or so and bought a 454 that needed a rebuild and I got the truck and TH400 along with the motor. Sure it was only 230 HP 454 but lots of torque. I should have found some closed chamber heads and stuck on it with a mild cam.

A decent 350 would be a great place to start. A V8 velle is probably always going to be more desirable than a 6 under the hood. It could be cool with a turbo ect on it but it just is not a great foundation to start with.

I have a complete '65 230 you can have if you'll just haul it away. Might be good for spare parts. It's missing the intake and exhaust manifolds but is otherwise complete.
