I'm using the Megashifter, I like it, works with reverse vavle body too. I've also used the Starshifter, worked well too, at least for what I needed it to do.

in the pic it shows a plastic base on it. Can that be removed. I am going to build around the shifter if that makes sense. Is it hard to switch shifters? Also what do you think i should ask for my hurst quarter stick shifter? Price? Thanks Josh

Yes you can remove the plastic base. This base mounts to the shifter assemble with two screws. The chrome plate with the shifter indicator is then connected to the plastic base. You could mount this chrome base in some fashion to your console.

I have the identical Quiksilver setup in my 69 SS396. Cut aluminum plate and bolted it to trans. hump then mounted shifter on top of it. Used plastic from shifter console that came with shifter to make a panel to fit in opening. Then cut slot for stick and smaller slot for gear indicator. Looks great and doesn't have that clumsy looking t-handle.

Pro ratchet more durable? I've been banging gears for over 6 yrs with the Megashifter, nary a problem, and now its shifting backwards, and thats with over FOUR years of FULLTIME racing, have you done that with your pro ratchet? The best shifter ever is a Cheetah SCS if you really wanna know, but us lowbuck backwoods hillbilly bracket racers don't need the best :D.

Another vote for the Pro Ratchet. I've seen units with tons of passes on them. Take them apart and you can see they are extremely well built.

Never missed a shift and can't fathom how one could.

I can't imagine using anything different. (tho I would at least give a Turbo Action Cheetah a looksie)

I've used a Hurst Dual Gate, Pro-Stick, Quarter-Stick and I think a Starshifter (?). Absolutely can't stand how they work.

Anything that takes 2 hands or requires you to lift up and move 6" to get to somewhere else to do this and that.......doesn't belong on a race car.

With that being said, if one is comfortable with the shifter that they are using, more power to them. However, just imagine how you'll feel when you miss one, just one, shift at the wrong time.

JMHO.

Megashifter here.
It does well for me. I have had to replace the cable once because of rubbing. User error on my part. Just be aware that the threads on the handle can strip if you tighten it down TOO far! Your best best it to find a nut (thin nut) that goes on before the T-handle. Then, back the nut up to the handle, much like a locking rocker arm. Also, put some loc-tite on the setup, and it'll be good for a while longer.

I used a quicksilver shifter once and hated it. Kept fighting with the "lift to get to reverse", or whatever that crap is. Seemed a little shady for safety, to me. the base/housing seemed a little ****y also.

If you are loocking for consol ideas, check out my picture here: http://www.chevelle-ss.com/Members_Pages/Mike_S_files/Interior side2.JPG

B&M sells a metal/chrome adapter piece for attaching their boot to a 80s model camaro center console.

Can you shift this into park and reverse with one hand?

Also looking at one for my 66.

I have the megashifter and like it just fine. It ratchets down to first and ratchets back up through the gears. Works easly with one hand. You cant go directly from N to R or P. To get to R or P you must be in D and pull up the lock out rod and then shift to R or P. I originaly had the star shifter, I didnt like the way it free falled when you pulled it back to first. I have not used the other shifters mentioned on this thread, but I like mine.

I love my megashifter. Looks nice too, just painted the red part of the handle black so it matches (spray painted it then used brake parts cleaner to wipe to paint off the parts that weren't red)
