Another thread about Lunati RRs made me start wondering. Seems like some 'Store brand' things might be more trust worthy than others because of a lack of moving parts, I.E. an intake vs a fuel pump but some of the Store brand items look very much like name brand stuff, but thats not always the best either like in the case of ProForm RRs, they look like Summit RRs. Although generally they seem to be geared more towards street performance and not hi-po strip use. Wondered what you all thought and what parts anyone had experiences with, good or bad.

Some stuff just plain makes sense- like the non-moving parts stuff, tools, etc. But I took a chance on a Jeg's mini starter and it fit perfectly (I have a road race oil pan and headers, so that's saying something) and has been really reliable, so I'm a fan.

I'm running a Summit mini-starter and $99 distributor & wires. No complaints at all, they work great and have for quite a while.

and unemployment is 9%+ because..
just say'n
No one said 'WHERE" the products were made... Otherwise, not sure how it affects "unemployment"... I am buying from a US company, employing US workers... Where the individual products are made isn't usually known.

Many of the parts are made by "name-brand" companies, so likely the same place of manufacture anyway... But many people assume because the part is cheaper, its automatically Imported ( the more expensive stuff might be imported too)...

I have run Summit's $89 HEI, CD ignition box, mini-starter, and many other items... So far, no problems...

I bought a Summit fuel pump, and it actually came in a Edelbrock box (Summit part number decal placed over the Edel #), and even had the "Edelbrock" sticker on the pump...

Summit always treats me well, and not only is most stuff less expensive, but I get it quicker than if I bought at the "local" speed shop (which isn't really too local anyway)...

Nothing wrong with Jegs, but with Summit's Nevada warehouse, I usually get parts the next day.

 There's a whole lot fewer imported parts on my Chevelle than there are on my neighbor's Toyota, his Gold Wing or his freakin' Jiangxi lawn mower.
actually, his Toyota was probably totally made in the USA..

I bought 2 Summit branded tools. The first one was a flywheel holding tool. First time I tried to use it, it bent like it was made of Play-doh. Total junk. Got a Snap-On flywheel holding tool and it works perfectly.

Bought a Summit leakdown tester, and the cylinder head fitting was made wrong and would not seal for testing. Total junk. Got a leakdown tester from Goodson Tools and it worked perfectly. And its hose even fit on the Summit tester so I could test both against each other.

Burned once, shame on them. Burned twice, shame on me. I've bought a ton of stuff from Summit over the years, but name brand stuff that they just sell. And I'll continue to do that, but I won't buy any Summit brand stuff again. Don't need the hassle or aggravation.

Great replies guys, I have actually bought some stuff from both jegs and Summit. I know I am pretty easy on my cars but for teh current build I may not play nice all the time and I dont want to break stuff every weekend. I did buy the summit Roller Rockers and then read a bunch of posts about how cr@ppy Proform Roller rockers were and realized they look VERY similar to the Summitt brand roller rockers. I think I may have made a mistake on that one but I dont know for sure if they are the same.

tools are a different deal than actual parts- especially if there are moving parts in those tools that are supposed to show any kind of precision. most of their car parts are actual name brand stuff in Summit boxes and sold at a discount. as far as the tools go- Summit probably gets a good buy on tools from the same place that those roving truckload tool sales people and Harbor Freight get them. they probably buy a container full of them directly from someone that imports them from China.. not to sound like a tool snob, but if you are willing to buy cheap tools you give up any excuse to whine about it when that $10 tool doesn't work as good as the similar $50 tool you can buy somewhere else.

i bought a flywheel turning tool from a tool sale- out of the box, it was junk.. the tab that holds onto the ring gear bent right off the first time i used it to hold a crank whil i broke the balancer bolt loose. i expected about that kind of quality from a $5 tool..
anyways, i fixed it by grinding off the weld that held the tab onto the tool, and it works just fine 12 years later even after being abused far beyond it's design limitations.
