Other than the piece that attaches the mirror to roof or windshield frame are there any differences in the mirrors ? Are there any differences in the arm length ?

I won't swear to this .But it is my understanding that 4drs and convertibles and some wagons used a arm that was around 1 inch shorter than the rest.

there is no difference in the arm
just the bracket that holds the arm to the header panel

I have 2 different kinds? one arm is shorter for the vert, and hard top is longer.

Hmmm, I don't think the conv. is shorter than hardtop. I'm pretty sure after talking to a friend that the arms are the same only the attaching bracket is different.

I checked both my '70's (convertible and Elco) and the one in the convertible is shorter,but also has the map lite type,so I don't know if that would be the differance.car is a 02D built date.

dismantled both a hard top and a convertible and there were no difference in the arm just the mounting bracket.

Well their you have it the anwser Chevrolet used what ever they had at the time to put them together:thumbsup: They did not care if the young guy on the assembly line was drinking or not just as long as the car got done.
My 70 is original with Hard top and my 69 was original convertible and the arm is shorter on the vert and also the mounting bracket is different too.

OK I just dug out about 20 mirrors
I have a bunch of them
six of them have map lights
and out of those six, two of them are shorter
all of them were from coupes
the rest
there are three others with short arms
and none of those were from verts
so appearently
there are different ones and there is no rhyme or reason to it
I do know for sure that one mirror was from a four door (it was still sitting in the box with the rest of the parts from that car) and the arm was regular length
if you need a picture I will post some as soon as my camera comes home - it is on vacation with the wife and kids
