I'm looking to dress up a space once occupied by a standard DIN sized aftermarket stereo with a piece of wood-grain dash material such as rosewood? I only need a flat stock piece about 8"x3" but would take anything larger that I could cut down. Anyone know of a source for plain sheet stock?

Something like a thin veneer that I can mount an aftermarket A/C vent to. It actually be held on the dash by the studs attached to the back of the vent. Imagine from the photo the 'plate' over the entire space with the A/C vent centered on the 'plate'.

Randy: Never even thought of Hobby Lobby, we do have one of those here in town. I'll give them a shot as well.

The picture makes it clear what you want to do. An actual veneer isn't going to work- it's too thin to attach anything to. I'm thinking about 3/8" thick total, with a rout around it so that it could be put in from the front(covering edges of hole) or put in from the back(not covering edges of hole. I can do this if you're interested. (millworker)
