I saw a piece in the news today about Darrell Waltrip getting caught with some sort of jet fuel gel in his intake. It seems to me that with the rpms those engines are turning that this could'nt last long in the intake. Whats going on here?

Back when NASCAR was in the racing business, good racers like good hotrodders found ways to make their cars faster and win races. Now that NASCAR is out of racing and into advertising, making your car fast is considered cheating. Michael like most of the racers are having a difficult time changing careers. They just don't do well in the advertising business.

The only reason Michael is still in NASCAR is because he's excellent at pitching sponsors. NAPA would have never gone with him when he left DEI if he wasn't. They certainly didn't stay with him for his driving talent. :noway:

NASCAR figured out that close racing is what the fans want, so they made rules to make the field more even. I know I wouldn't watch much if the leader was 14 laps ahead of 2nd place like one of Ned Jarret's wins.

The cars were cooler in the '60s, but the racing is much better today. Back then it was rare to have more than 3-5 cars finish on the lead lap. Now half the field finishes within a couple seconds of each other. That's what the fans want, and that's why NASCAR has grown so huge today.
