I got mine from Be Cool (through Summit). It was a bolt-in. but I recall I might have needed different hoses. I have a factory fan shroud that I had to modify slightly to fit, and the shroud-mounting brackets are extra (not included with the radiator)...

Other than that, it does bolt right in...

Street Rod Stuff (Streetrodstuff.com)will make a PRC radiator any way you want it and it will bolt right up. The cost is about the same as a Be Cool, but I think the quality is better. They made a 3 core crossflow for my '65 and it works great.

Thanks for the replies. I have seen both the Be Cool and the PRC radiator. It’s good to see someone recommend the PRC, I was thinking about going with that one.

Jim… That’s one of the nicest wagons I’ve ever seen. I think the color of your wagon is the same as my chevelle, and my car also has the factory air. I was also thinking about going with the Vintage Air conversion.

Question(s): Would you recommend the Vintage air package and are there any major advantages over the stock setup?

Thanks also for the Streetrodstuff.com link….. Nice stuff !!

Eric

Thanks for the compliment. If your stock ac setup is working well, I would probably leave it, maybe flushing it out and switching to the newer refrigerant if you have any leaks. The main benefit of the V/A setup is that the engine compartment is cleaned up by removing all of the a/c boxes. I installed the V/A Sure Fit system. The Sure Fit's drawbacks are as follows: Inability to mix outside air into the a/c or heating flow. The unit doesn't have a temp control for the heat, so you either have to buy an electronic one from VA for another hundred bucks or keep turning the blower on and off as your feet toast or freeze. The blower motor is located in the passenger compartment so it is a little noisier than the factory system. Once it's all hooked up it works very well and they have come out with a newer unit that takes care of some of these problems. Even though V/A says that the unit is for non factory air cars, with a little ingenuity and some minor fabrication, you can make their system fit.

Can anyone tell me who makes a crossflow radiator for a 66 chevelle. I would like to get one that bolts directly in place.

Thanks for any assistance.
I bought a PRC radiator for Streetrodstuff. They spec'd it to cool my 396 in my '67 Chevelle. Turns out what they spec'd is way too smal to keep my engine cool. Their response was that it was my problem, not theirs. REAL BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH FOR THESE GUYS!!

I have a prc and it is just fine. It was way cheaper than a be cool. I had a custom aluminum shroud put on it and cut out my fan hole. It looks and works great.

Just saw the post about bad experience with streetrodstuff. I did have the same issue but they remade my radiator with more cubic inches of fins and sent it right out. I had good service. I might even have the blue prints of mine.

faulkkev,

Do you still have the blue prints for that Radiator? I'm glad I found your post, I was going to call PRC this week and order a radiator for my 66 Chevelle.

Did yours come polished?

I have a griffin 4-core radiator, no shroud, with a flex fan in my chevelle, but it runs too warm. I'm going with PRC's crossflow and going with an electric fan.

Just bought ordered a PRC from streetrodstuff too.
Hoping for the best. The drawing looks good.

I had a PRC in my 67 big block. They (and no other rad mfg I know of) makes the cores so there are a limited number of sizes available. Mine was a 26x19 and they custom made the mounting tabs and rad cap location. They'll put the filler anywhere you specify, make different mounting tabs (where applicable), and custom size the inlet and outlet bungs if you wish.

Everybody goofs every once in awhile but Dick was very helpful. Even though my spec sheet showed a 4-speed, I wanted an auto trans tank in case I ever swapped (which I eventually did). Well, the builders just read the spec sheet and built it for a manual trans and I wasn't charged for the (missing) tank. I didn't notice it until long after I'd tossed the shipping box (a couple of weeks) and Dick was willing to pay the freight both ways to return mine and ship me another with the tank at no extra cost. At the time I was ready to install it, I couldn't find another box and really needed to get the radiator in so I kept the one they sent. All I had to do was mark and drill the mounting holes and it worked like a champ!

They now make a CAD drawing of your radiator and send it to you before they build it - hopefully this new service will cut down on errors.

I've sold the big block car but I won't hesitate to have them build me another one for my small block Elky. Their base unit is $387 - was less than Be Cool.
