CrazyDavey's "Collective" Engine Project....

I'm posting this with Davey's permission.

Last year Davey called and said "I think it is time to freshen her". I said ok what are we looking at for time frame? He said I need it next Spring. I was silent as I knew with the 5 engines we had on the books and new building underway that would include a move of equipment and down time that we could not do it. This sucked for all parties. What the hell to do.

Well Davey said what about Mark Jones. I said well that's an idea. So I called Mark and explained the situation and if he was interested. He said he was but wanted he would prefer Scott to look over the heads. So with Davey's blessing Mark agreed to dyno the engine as it stood, dis-assemble the engine, take care of all machine work to block, assemble the engine complete. We agreed to prep the heads, re cam the engine, and supply the parts. Davey agreed to agree!!!!:D

Well then after Mark dyno'd the engine and a few conversation with direction we came on the game plan of:
Hyd Roller Std Core Size
Morel .903" lifters
Up the compression to 13+
Bore and hone cylinders to 4.530"
New Foxy Manifold
Tune up Cylinder Heads (First thought)
Replace Pro Systems with AED
Go back to dyno

The heads got here and they were in good shape but after 400 passes I told Davey we just needed all new stuff to be safe. He agreed. We would take a mold and get a custom piston.....Custom Piston stuck in Davey's head.

I get a call from "Crazy" and he said, you know Chris the one thing about this build has always been pretty much shelf stock parts. What if we go with new heads that way we can use a shelf stock piston. I said fine with me and it was fine with Mark and Scott.

So the heads are now a bare set of AFR315's that are getting Foxified. We now are using a shelf stock piston that will net us around 13.7 to 1. We plan on turning up the rpms to make peak power around 7000-7200. The expected HP is 850HP plus.

This is a collective effort and all parties for this project. I feel the combined talent of all should make for one hell of a ride.

I have posted this as I feel it is the best medicine for Davey right now. He is a loved member of this board and he loves this board. I want input and questions on this project as it will keep him focused on what is most important.

Thank you.

Bob,
Stroke will remain the same, 4". Rod length will remain the same, 6.535". Scott will tune on the heads and once he has those and the intake done then I will have the info for the camshaft.

Nice post Chris. I'll let you fix your TYPO your HP prediction. Just change that 8 to a 9 :)

Now, if I can be of any help with this project, please let me know. You, Marky and Foxy are awesome!

Ok guys. I don't even have my car running for a year and Davey already gets more power. Plus, removing body parts to be lighter should be illegal if you ask me..... ;):D:D
I have to mess with you Davey..... that's all I can do from AZ.

Dal, Just don't let us catch you doing the old "light-weight plastic hip replacement" thing :)

Heck, if you just left your wallet in the trailer, that would be good for a 1/10th!

Hats off to you guys & Davey.......Great therapy , I have no doubt the hyd roller will go to 7200 but have to ask, would this combo now not benefit more from a solid roller ?
or is it just cool to make this kind of power with a hyd roller

Looking forward to this build. Always cool to see what you guys are up to.
Prayers sent to Davey. Looking forward to his threads about how to get smaller wheelies.

Got a call yesterday, and have to share this with the board. I have to offer a special thanks to a particular board member who will remain anonymous, but who has offered out of a simple gesture of kindness and support, to buy Davey's new intake manifold for this project. What a great example of the spirit of the sport, a true friend, and the great people we have here on TC. :hurray::beers::thumbsup:

Sounds like a great build guys. 850 plus hp would be outstanding with a 4" stroke.

Some Chevelle guy is buying Davey's intake for him........PRICELESS  :hurray: :beers:

I can't thank everyone enough for helping me out with this new version of the motor, especially whoever the mystery intake manifold person is...that is beyond belief. I think the idea of having these three work on this is pretty interesting, certainly a lot of different ideas. I pretty much told each of them they are free to try or do anything they want and I'll support it, I don't know if this has ever been done so let's have some fun with it. Each certainly has a solid area of expertise so what happens if we bring it all together? I don't have any power expectations but I'm sure they'll come up with enough to give me suspension problems again...:D

So we'll put out info as it is relevant, this isn't a secret build or anything like that but knowing these guys they'll come up with some good numbers for what will be pretty much a shelf part motor....

Good for you David! I am anxiously awaiting to hear dyno results and some stories from track about putting HP to the ground. Got quite a team there.

"for what will be pretty much a shelf part motor"

As long as it stays on a shelf somewhere and not installed in some 67 Chevelle that's lined up next to me, well, I'm good with that :)

Mark dyno'd the old combo before he took it apart. She was down about 20HP. Engine was beautiful inside.

Mark will add his oiling modifications to the oiling system. We will be adding a Stef's pan to the build. Mark will fully assemble and dyno the engine.

The head are here from AFR. Scott will be putting a larger valve in the head and doing some of his tweaking on the heads.

Time frame I am not going to say as I know Mark is busy and so is Scott. When we get close the board will know.

The valves aren't close enough to the piston? lol Davey likes them really tight!

This is going to be good .

^^^^^
It already is. Good folks doing good things for good people.
Doesn't get any better than that.
