Clacking sound on start up, no problem right, just adjust to zero lash for hyd cam. but I still got 1/4 of an inch of play on rocker at the bottom of the stud !

Push rods are 7.75 inches, cam is a Speed Pro CS-1171R. .465 int, .488 exh

All rockers have this much play. It seems I need longer pushrods. otherwise
I did a pretty even job of wiping lobes. Any suggestions?

The rocker should "float" between the valve and push rod and not be tightened down to "bottom out".
7.800 is stock length.
What was done to motor ? shaved, decked, cam swap ????

Am I reading this right, or missunderstanding the question ?

The rocker arms loose thier grip on the push rod and it seems as if there is about a quarter of an inch play between the top of the valve stem and contact with the rocker arm when the push rod is not working the valve (backside of the lobe).

Yes the deck of the block was shaved.

motor is fresh rebuild.

This cam isn't that radical. could it have a smaller base circle?
