I think so. There are far better cams out there. I think the Comp XE270 would perform better. For your little engine I think the duration is too much, plus I think there were some compromises made in performance to get it to sound radical, yet make it somewhat streetable. It's all over the place as far as lift, duration and I'm not even sure of the LSA on them. Here's an example: 279/297 duration, .479/.465 lift. It's the Heinz 57 of cams! This is my uneducated opinion!

Is there just one Thumpr cam? I guess I thought it was a line of cams, available in several grinds. Isn't that the case? It would seem to me that a smaller inch smallblock would be happier in the 256 to 262 or 268 range. What are the specs of your cam?

OK, it looks like there are 2 with the name "Thumpr". They are both pretty big cams, requiring some CR and some converter, and I see that they are for roller motors. They are on pretty tight LSA's too. Which one is it? There is a "279" and a "283".

They both seem pretty big to me. My buddy has a 307 with 3" exhaust and the 268 cam...if it is lope and a good idle you want, a mean sound...all you need is 3" exhaust, you'll be much happier that way, than if you over cam it. Go smaller.
