On my 66, I currently have the bone stock 37A alt. with ext. regulater. I want to upgrade to something that has steady output for ignition and my dual coolant fans. Car has a DUI HEI distributer, but no other real power accessories. My amp gage is all over the place depending on RPM. When fans kick on, it may even be discharging at idle. What brand or P/N alt. should I be looking at? I assume a 1 wire unit as well. Sorry if I posted in wrong forum. Thanks!

Just want something a little more consistent, and get a little more modern. I have not done a search yet, figured i would ask in this forum.

Do not assume a one wire alternator.

An internal regulated alternator with sensing wire at the power distribution point will work better overall. You may have to convert to a late model alternator which will involve mounting bracket and wiring alterations.
