Hi guys, so im new here. Im working on a project 67 chevelle. I did a search and didn't really come up with too much. I will try and give as much info as possible, and i will follow up with the solution when the time comes. So i have a 67 chevelle. I swapped a 350 with turbo 350tranny which came out of a 69 chevelle my brother bought last year. He had a built drive train for it already so he gave me this one. He drove the car home about an hour and for a couple days after purchasing with no issues , before he did his swap. The engine sat in my garage for about 4 months before i dropped it in. Went to fire and got nothing. We dont know the internals but its a 350 (010 block) with edelbrock performer intake, holley 650 carb, hei distributor. I put new delco plugs, gapped at .045, new moroso wires and hedman headers and changed oil and filter, and put mini starter (oem) Aside from that i didn't touch the motor itself. I haven't wired the car up yet, i just wanted to fire the motor first before doing all that. So we hooked up a good battery with cables to a good ground, and the starter. A jumper to the positive on the distributor and one to jump starter solenoid. Ran a hose from fuel pump to a jerry can of gas. Very basic. Starter cranks engine over. Tested all connections. Get battery voltage at starter and distributor, spark at plugs(although i think its a touch weak), fuel squirts into the carb when i give i hit throttle (with good pressure at the line going into the carb) , new clean fuel filter. Distributor was not touched so timing shouldnt have changed. Pulled cap and can see rotor spinning. Olugs wires aee in correct order. The thing was fine when he pulled it from his car and it wants to fire up but just wont. we've been trying to figure it out for a few days. If anyone has any ideas or has been through this before i would really appreciate it. Thanks

Firing order has been quadruple checked, and 12.6 volts at distributor. It "tried" to fire 3 times total...just a cough and a puff of smoke. Once with starting fluid the other two times not. The distributor gave me no issue when installing the motor-but i wasnt there for the removal so i guess its possible my brother pulled and reinstalled distributor but im pretty sure i got the motor the same way he took it out. Ill try turning it 180. It has the symptoms i guess, just assumed it was never messed with. Thanks for the suggestions so far

Edit-just talked to my bro and he says he removed engine with distributor and never moved it

could also be a weak battery that cranks it but doesn't fire it hard enough to light it off... use jumper cables hooked to a running car or a battery charger for extra juice..
tried that one already

He said it has HEI in his 1st post.
yes its hei

Try pumping the gas when you try starting it. Gas should be squirting into the carb barrels.
definitely have done that

Keep the suggestions coming please. Someone will eventually tell me something i maybe missed or am not thinking. Completely stumped and frustrated. Thank you

Maybe its flooded now.
pulled the plugs and cleaned them, and cranked the starter with plugs out just in case

You said you replaced the wires are they in the right position on the cap and are the wires that are supposed to be run to the coil that is in the cap connected.
i checked firing order what feels like a hundred times. Coil wires are connected, didn't touch that stuff-but i did pull the cover already and check, plus we tried another known good cap

Exactly, distributor hasn't been touched. . I will check it tomorrow though i guess anyway. Haven't had much time to work on it between jobs. But tmrw night my bro is going to come by and well try a few things. Anyone ever have a module go bad in the distributor and still get spark but no start?
Edit: quick thought. With vacuum advance with the hose coming off the distributor around 7 o'clock/730 right now uf i turned 180 it would be at the firewall...if it would even clear it

Wow so my brother and i finally had a chance to play with the car for a bit. We took a quick look at things before starting. Starter and battery-check, fuel-check, spark-looks good. Crank and nothing as usual. I remember back a while i was searching firing orders(when i got the motor from my brother there were no plugs or wires installed) and i had seen something about counter clockwise firing orders and had taken a screen shot. So i say lets try swapping the wires around, just in case. The thing was popping and chugging and cranking and the whole car was shaking and was the closest to starting it has been yet. But im sure its flooded at this point as was backfiring. So i pulled the plugs and gonna let it sit til tomorrow and try again. Now the motor was out of his 69 chevelle. Its a 3970010 block but has been decked so the number is not on the front pad anymore. Im just wondering what this could have been originally out of that the firing order would be counter clockwise???? I will post tomorrow after we get it started ;) or so i hope

So thanks to all who gave suggestions. Finally got the car fired up today. We checked the timing, even though the distributor never got moved or bumped. It was installed one tooth off by the previous owner . Since my bro had pulled the plugs and wires we had nothin to go by except how it should've been wired. So after seeing where the rotor was at tdc of cyl 1 we moved all the wires over one spot clockwise and the thing runs like a dream.
