Hello
I am needing some help on a cam selection. I have a .30 over 454 with fully professionally ported 049 oval port heads with oversize valves 10.5 to 1 compression, gapless rings, victor jr, holley 950hp (worked over by bigs performance for this engine) and its setup with a hydraulic roller cam. The current specs i am unsure of and the builder cant find the slip although i am positive that the exhaust lift is just over 600 and the intake just under 600. Anyhow it was a custom grind that the builder ordered but i am quite unhappy with the results. We dyno'd it and it made 524 HP and gaining @ 6500 (didnt want to spin it more) and 480 something TQ at 4000 something rpm, sorry i dont have the dyno sheet as he misplaced that as well (not real happy with this builder). Anyhow i had seen similar builds to mine that have used the ultradyne 288/296 flat tappet cam and made considerably more HP and TQ than my engine (which has a roller cam). I am pretty sure its the cam choice i have now as everything else in the engine is top notch. I dont really want to go back to a flat tappet and i am hoping you guys can help me out with a suggestion. It will be backed with a TH400 (converter hasnt been picked yet) with a 4:10 rear ratio. The engine for sale in this classified ad http://www.chevelles.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=23047&cat=6 is virtually identical to mine and uses the ultradyne 288/296 and made over 600 hp and 550 tq.
Anyhow thanks for your time and appreciate any responses!
