I'm giving the small block thing a try with my 355. My AFR 195 Eliminator's should be arriving tomorrow. What is a good cam to get my Chevelle into the 11's or very low 12's. Also if they can work with the springs that come on the heads that'll be great. See info below -

Intake Valve, 2.050" standard length AFR #7204

Exhaust Valve, 1.600" standard length AFR #7219

1.290" OD Hydraulic dual valve spring w/ dampener, 135lbs on seat, .600" maximum lift

Car has a turbo 350 with a 4000 stall (stall at 4400 behind my BBC), 4:10 gears with MT ET streets measuring 28X11.5. I also have power brakes. Engine has approximately 10.5:1 compression.

Thanks

That is a pretty fair spring, it is light (mass wise) as is the new valve
Specs are 135 @ 1.800. 340 @ 1.230 & coil bind is 1.1.050 so it will work with a number of cams both hyd & solid flat tappet to about .650 lift
I feel it is too light for most hyd roller stuff, I would use the upgrade spring that is 155/412.
I will leave the cam to someone else for now as I have to go do something constructive in the shop
Outstanding head, I think you will be pleased

Thanks for the info. I'll wait to hear more input on the cam selection. I was leaning towards a nice solid flat tappet if I can find one that will work with these springs. I know this isn't the normal selection process but I'm almost out of money for this project, thus ruling out a new spring and roller cam setup or something similar.

I have the 401A6Lun on 112lsa in my 355 @ 9.6-1 compression and AFR 180cc heads, TH350(need more stall), 3.73 gears:

Advertised Duration IN/EX: 276/284
Duration @.050 IN/EX: 243/251
Gross Valve Lift IN/EX: .518"/.530"
Lobe Sep Angle / Intake Ctr Line: 110/104
Valve Lash IN/EX: .026"/.026"
RPM Range: 2500-6800

I am extremely happy with the cam. Great with power brakes. And will be used for the 383 conversion.

My build started similar to yours....Wounds up changing my mind and going SR. It took longer to get the money but the difference in power (on paper at least) showed a big loss in power compared to a F.T.
tony@airflowresearch.com can give you some good input as far as cam specs, spring [pressures, etc. Hes a busy guy but will answer your email, be patient.

I have some brand new springs that will handle that LUN cam or similar posted above if you are interested. Ill never use them.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll try sending Tony an email. If anyone else has any opinions I'd like to hear them. I'm totally in the dark with the small blocks. I'm trying to do some 12 second index racing next year.
