How to remove bulkhead connector for cleaning on 71 chevelle

#2 ·
My 70 had a bolt in the middle covered up by many years of road dirt and grime. I think it was a 5/16 head or close to it. Maybe 7/16ths. Maybe 3/8ths.

Loosen it to allow the front and back halves (fuse panel) of it to come apart.

On the engine side of the bulkhead connector there is a center bolt that unthreads from a captive T nut on the interior side.

Some I've taken apart you need to back the bolt out a few turns then pull the plug apart some then continue on unthreading the bolt. The ones I've worked on also do not allow the bolt to come out of the plug but different years could have changed this.

This is the "T" nut on the interior side but is not seen unless the fuseblock/bulkhead connector is split apart.

When I was cleaning the looks up on mine I found out the unused slots had filler plugs in them and if yours are missing any, they slots need to be sealed up.
