Has anyone seen this modification to a rod cap? I would think anything that would introduce oil to the back of the bearing is a bad thing. Thoughts?

Many years ago that was a common thing to aid wrist pin and cam/lifter oiling IIRC.

What Dave said Pontiac had them and early small blocks. The rod bearings used to have a cutout there for the oil to get out. I cant say I have ever seen a big block with it from the factory.

Sure but not as much as you think. And none of the new bearings have the hole there so it does not do anything anyway

Wasn't it due to emissions that they quit using that spit hole? Too much oil getting in the combustion chamber or something?
