I recently bought a numbers matching '69 SS and one of the highlights of this car to me anyhow was that it is a bench seat, auto column shift car. Just my personal taste on that type of car.
And it has factory A/C.

Well, I found a hugger orange car that I have been looking for but I really wanted buckets and console and it has a bench seat. I wanted to hear some opinions on how a bench or buckets adds or detracts from the price of a car.

Personal preference would be Buckets and console. But if thinking as a "collector", Originality stands above preference..

I agree... a "collector" ( the way the term is most often used) is most likely going to want whatever was original...

Now. it is YOUR car, put whatever YOU want... Sure, IF its completely stock and original, then adding buckets will detract a little from the value, FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR STOCK... But it seems the general public prefers buckets/console, so IF its NOT stock and original, then adding buckets and console should increase the value...

Its really hard to say, because one setup might appeal to that one buyer with the money burning a hole in their pocket...

bench seat 4 speed, then your hunny can snuggle up and when you shift your hand is ........................................

Because buckets and console were options that would add to the value. Nothing wrong with a bench. My car was originally a bench with 4 speed which in my opinion is an odd combo as nobody can sit in the middle anyway with a manual trans. You could always swap it over but the cost for this conversion is in the neighborhood of 2k.

I have a 69 with bench and automatic. I have always thought I would like to change over but since I have all the original paper work that shows how it came i have resisted the urge to change it over. Plus when ever my kids buy a Chevelle i change it to buckets and console for them. Doing my son's 70 Monte Carlo right now. But I agree with furball8994 - "Originality stands above preference.. ".

What is more desirable in a Chevelle, bench or bucket seats, from a collectability standpoint?

Unless it's a numbers matching car, then whether it has buckets or a bench seat is a moot point...from a collectability standpoint.

Get what you want.

NADA deducts for bench seat. I would say it is personal taste. I do believe Buckets are more desirable. Everyone seems to want them. My '72 came with a bench seat so I kept it that way. I once owned a convetible with bucket seats and if you had more than two people riding with the top down it was kinda uncomfortable for the people in the back. With the bench you can at least set three if you had to.

The ultimate for me would be the Bench Seat 4 Speed. Desirable or not.

I offer to take in any homeless 66 Malibu two door front bench seats that anyone is kicking out of their life. As long as they are close enough for me to pick up...

I promise to give one of them a good home and a new black seat cover.

Never thought I would think this way, but I'd rather have an original bench vice the later Camaro or whatever seats and non fitting brackets I have....

New, I would opt for buckets, but a bench is much more user friendly.

Regardless, a 4 speed trumps any seat combo in my book.

I like the buckets/console.
but, I have become very fond of the bench seat with 4 speed/floor combo.
Just something cool about it. I really love the simplicity of it.
Love to find one to work on for a few years............

From what I have seen, collectors are looking for original, high horsepower cars with lots of options. They seem to take original over add ons. With most of us back then, we bought what we could afford, so most of the musclecars had the performance options checked off and that didn't leave a lot of money left over for the extras. Our two Chevelles came with neither a radio nor power steering, just the necessities.
