And I agree too.

Have been using a Detroit Locker in my Nova for over 6 years now.

No pops, clicks or bangs.

However, the rear will break loose while taking a curve, IF you give throttle abruptly ...... so in slippery conditions one has to be careful.

My Detroit Locker does make some "noise" at really low speed turns and maybe right after putting the car in "Drive" from Reverse (like when I back out of my garage and onto the street), but not bad... Driving around town, I have never noticed any issues...

I drove the car throught the mountains (I-80) at 65+ and never had an issue... i got caught in a heavy thunderstorm coming back from Reno, and although I "white-knuckled" it (because of the locker and the rain, and stories I heard), it actually performed great, with no issues...

But I agree with some of the others, at your power level, I wouldn't buy one.

The previous owner installed it, and I have been considering a Tru-trac or clutch-type (I also wanted to change the gear ratio too) because I think it might be a bit overkill for my car (plus I want to try some autocross, etc)...

I may have been one of the first to say they were loud.. and i do have one.. When it is loud for me is when i accelerate then let off it will clunk. Then if i stab it after coasting it clunks. Turns and what not are no problem. It is just a loud bang when i do this. It was set up by Currie so i know it is right.

Every once and a while you will get play in your pinion gear, which is normal for a locker. This is most likely what you are hearing. A way to test for this, is put your car in neutral, chalk the wheels and get under it, and rock the drive shaft left to right, if there is play, this is what you are hearing. This is normal on locked vehicles. I imagine you have good U-joints.

Oh yea, good u-joints. I also did crawl under it and rock it while in neutral and in gear. I did not hear anything and no real slop in it. Nice and tight.

new here, but not to the subject, i have ran a few lockers.. all detroits, and all in 9" rears.. the driveability is no diff from anything else, tight turns w/throttle do promote a ratcheting noise from it.. the only issue i've really had with them is drag racing... if tire press in slicks varies from side to side, the car will respond and seem to try and steer with the rearend kind of and awkward feeling if you dont know whats happening.. so if you do race make sure to check tire press before each race.. if one side of car is in the sun for a while it could be enough to alter pressure..

just my 2 cents
