[66 Chevelle Bob]

I'm thinking of installing a CLOSE RATIO Manual Steering Box instead of a stock manual OEM box since mine is worn. Does anyone out there use one and if so..What's your opinion...?

Not to long ago I bought a rebuilt manual box for my 68 442 and talked to the guy about the quicker manual box and he said most of the people that had bought them were dissatisfied with them.

I have one on my El Camino. and am actually happy with it. It isn't too hard to turn in parking type situations, and is quite easy once you are rolling. The only time I didn't like it was at the Atlanta National tour (first time out autocrossing for the car, actually first time out altogether) where it was a bit tough in very tight back and forth situations like slaloms and offsets, wears on you trying to turn it fast. The 275/40/17 BFG R1's on the front didn't help much either. With the 245/45/17 street tires, it is easier to turn. I would even run it up at Road Atlanta at a track day/PDX. Since the main use of this car is autox, I am looking into power steering, to help me compete better, only because of the tight sections. After the next 2 events, I will decide which way to go.

Thanks for the tips but my driving is for ice cream and cruise nites primarily.

I'm leaning towards an OEM standard steering box so far...But we'll see.
