I made one of those up many years ago and mailed it to a guy who was a total ass on the radio. I even download the FCC logo and put it on the paper and envelope for a letterhead. The guy disappeared from the radio.

Thanx fellas.

A co-worker brought in and gave to me free his little wil antenna.

Hooked it up and I was able to communicate with him over a short distance of 20-30 feet. So I know it works.

I've yet to try it out on the interstate or anything so just how far/well it's going to transmit, we shall see.

I'm definitley going to get me one of them SWR meters from radio shack.

Now if I may ask, I know it installs in line between the radio and the antenna...

BUT....once installed and the antenna is adjusted, do i leave it inline? Or do i just use it to set the height of the antenna and then take off and instead run the antenna wire directly to the back of the radio?

It's usually taken it back off after getting the antenna trimmed.

Thanx Dean, only reason I asked was because it has a calibration knob on it. So I wasn't sure if that has anything to do with the setting or not.
That is for setting the meter to zero in the "set" mode.
Afterwards you flip it to "SWR" and key the mic to get your reading.

First off get a good antenna. A Wilson antenna will suit your needs. Definetly get a SWR meter. Rat Shack stuff sucks. If your are going to the Rat Shack, don't buy the cheap coax. Also get a SWR Dosey meter. I run a Galaxy radio with a 102" whip and a 1000 Watt Dave Made 6 pill Liner in my S-10. My radio has been tuned and had super mod. install.
What's the SWR "Dosey" meter? Oh and since you're not a fan of Radio shack what brand SWR meter would you prefer?
