Sorry about the sort story

Ok last week I was on vaction and I had list of things to do to my elcamino. The main thing was to go though front and rear suspension as I have never touched it in the 15 years I have had the car. I trailered the car an hour away to shop that builds circle track cars and got the car weighed so I could order springs front end weight was 1026 on drivers front and 1028 on pass. front and a total 2054. I got the car home and got the ride height of spring with it seting on the ground it was 11 3/4 it set alittle high so when I called Santhuff I asked if we could go with 11" and told them the front end weight they did the math he said I need a 209 lb spring and he would send me the 200 lb spings. I though this would work out good becasue I had plans for glass hood and bumper so some weight would be coming off the front anyways. I went ahead and put the UMI rear suspension on while I was wating on the springs. When I finished the rear I took front apart and put the new control arm bushing in and Afco low friction ball joints. I got the springs on friday and got them in and put front end all back together I let the car down off the lift and the front end just kept coming down until the tire was well up into the front fender. I walked around and looked at front end the springs where all but coil binded and when my 170lbs leaned on it the suspension went ahead and bottomed out. I got the tape back out and checked the spring ride height I stoped there and called santhuff to see what they had to say. They were not sure what was going on he did the math and said with the ride height and what springs I had it was like they were seeing 1,200 lbs per spring. They ended up sending me 225lb springs to try. I hope they were not labeled wrong and these springs are going to set stiff and have the front end up in the air. What do you guys thank and has anyone else seen this?

They will not get stiff and get taller. They are just wrong. I have the 250 spring and it is just a tad short on my car.

exactly the same thing here. my moroso springs the front end was high. put santhuffs on and the front end was on the floor, i had to buy the 28 inch hoosier tire to get the front end back up a couple of inches.i have the 200lb springs.

I didn't expect them to get stiffer or taller I was jst hoping they were just miss labled and the 225 were going to be to stiff I was also under the impression that the 225 were the heavyist sping they made but you have 250s? What was your front end weight?

Mine was 1870 on the front, and I got the 180lbs. It was low just off the uncut bumpstop. I put a 1" spacer on them and it came up to where I liked. I knew in the future it was possible I could have close to another 150-200lbs off the front though. And I like mine low.

I duno if its a problem, it is cool he is willing to swap springs until you are happy.

Typically with a spring such as the santhuff which is mostly designed for racing you will want full suspension travel and this means the front real low. This will also make the spring work the best, so if he was to give you a spring that is too high I would say that is a problem:yes:

A spring has more stored energy for weigh transfer on launch when the coils are closer to each other

How does it sit without the shock in and tight ?
I under stand that but when the car is all but seting on the rubber bumpers just seting there what is going to do when I let off and hit brakes and the ride height was 2" lower then should be.

I put shocks on before I let it down why do you ask?

My memory may be flawed but I seem to remember 250. My front weight is 2267#

I was glad to here him say he would make it right. Do you remeber what you spring ride height ended up being. With as low as mine is and as easy as it moves I would say if I cut the bump stop off I could make it hit the oil pan on the ground.

Thanks now that is how I would like mine to set but mine is even lower then that. How easy will yours move down if you put alittle weight on it?

I just rebuilt the suspension, in that pic had stock bushings and balljoints:D The motor hasnt been in yet so I dont know what it will act like now.

But even then it moved easily, didnt really move much further down though alot harder to try and push down than up. Im only a buck 70 and can easily top out the suspension by lifting up on the fender.

Is this how it is right now? If so u might wana try taking the bumper off and adding a 1" spacer ontop of the spring before going to a 225. In this pic its pretty much on the bumpstop. but came up to that other pics height after doing the bumper and the spacer.

Ok so from what I have read so far, would the stock 40yr old springs in my monte which are 350sbc springs work good for racing?

my car also sits like an 1.5 inch from bumpstop and the coils are very close together.

They actually ride pretty good too, I drove about 100 miles without shocks before I realized it and was surprised at how good it rode:D

Thats how you want them to sit or be wound at ride height but stock springs to be like that have lost so much pressure they dont have much energy stored

Stored energy from coil springs is a foureightynine lauch or the famous BobWest launch

oh....I thought it was the stoker motor, 5kstall, tractor gears, and slicks:D

but yeah I can definately understand that, How did you like the moroso's springs? I;m looking at those cause price is damn right

They have worked for years

The Santhuff is better but it really depends on 2 things, budget and et goals

nope, 331 cubes, tractor gears, 6k stall, slicks (want to go for a ride :D)

Here is a pass with mouse engine and tractor gears :D But notice the ride height with un cut springs. the car is full steel just like gm did it from factory

Moroso springs uncut in that video, spun just a little too :D
