Sure. It costs more; and you have to be careful of the plumbing so that it is not restrictive while also assuring that the hoses won't chafe or be cut; and that the hoses have chemical and thermal compatibility with hot motor oil.

Mount the filter head so that when you change the filter(s) you aren't dripping oil on anything that the oil will negatively affect.

Given any kind of choice--don't do it.

But sometimes there just isn't much choice.

I had a remote filter on my drag truck and had nothing but problems, it leaked continually, I was not impressed. I finally gave up and went back to a filter on the block.

I have a Mr Gasket relocation kit on my Monte,there was no room to get the oil filter off between the headers & the kicked out sump on the oil pan.I have 2 custom made brackets attached to the oil pan to secure the lines to,and I have them wrapped with some old spark plug boot protector material.I also had the hoses made up from braided SS material.I use K&N oil filters,and have had no problems with this setup.I also installed a Stefs oil pan heater,for those chilly mornings.Heres a couple of pictures;

I strongly suggest that you run the old can quart-sized cartridge filter of old b/c you have to clean it out and that's when you can tell if you gotta problem.

And I have a short ice pick somewhere to help me pick the big "O"-ring outta the groove too.

I think we can still buy long/tall 2-quart cans if not mistaken that are/were used on the Big Truck SB and BB engines of years back so if one will fit, please consider it for two reasons, it's a clean-out can AND it holds an extra quart of oil to I think make's 6 qts.

I love those. had three or four spares when I worked at the machine shop. had to leave them all, along with most everything else when I moved. :(

Can you still get them new???
