Like flying with one of the big airlines? Dress comfortable take something to read.
Yes,I'm flying with American Airlines. From Philly,PA to Fort Worth Dallas, then switch planes to fly to El Paso TX,where my dad is picking me up,he lives in Deming,NM.

Don't eat a large breakfast, chew gum if your ears won't pop, don't hassle the flight attendants. Oh yea, and remember, in the event of a water landing, your seat can be used for a flotation device........:D:D:D

I fly quite a bit on business (In fact, I'm in Miami right now). Just wear something comfortable, wear clean socks (you will probably have to take your shoes off at security) and take something to do. I take my MP3 player and just sit back and relax. Air travel is safe and fairly comfortable. You'll be fine. Enjoy the trip! :D

I haven't flown in a while, i miss it. In my younger days, we would always be going somewhere. I think i have some business trips this year though :)

Yup just take something to do, and relax. Take off and landing are fun.

I fly quite a bit for business. American has some good legroom in the economy section. I'm 6'1" and I'm comfortable on American. I usually fly United and get into their Economy Plus section as I flew my way into the upper ranks :) .

Anyway. Like others have said, comfortable clothes, magazine/newspaper/laptop/ipod whatever will keep you busy. Be sure you get the metal off you BEFORE you get into the security line, take your shoes off. Don't walk through the X-ray maching before the TSA employee tells you to. PA is a pretty easy airport to get through secruity and to the gate. DFW is a bit more challanging :) . Depending on the gate you have to get to for your flight for El Paso. I don't get nervous flying anymore. It's no big deal. Safest way to travel (based on statistics). There may be some turbulence during the flight. If you like rollercoasters, it probably won't bother you. I dig the turbulence.

I don't eat or drink much before or during flight. The Seat Belt Light always seems to either not go out or it goes on when I need to use the restroom. Your freedom (or lack of) to use the restroom is what I consider the worst part of flying. I like to sit in an isle seat. Since this will be your first time, you might want to get a window seat that you can see the ground from. Some of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen were from an airplane.

Your best bet for having an enjoyable flying travel is to 1) not check your luggage, 2) PATIENCE! because you control NOTHING! The Gov't, Pilot, and Air Traffic Control do.

If you have motion sickness, take some dramamine with you....or don't watch outside the window when landing/taking off. It's not pretty(I know what happens  )

I too fly quite a bit, especially for business and often long international flights.

The advice here is spot on, take something to read or listen to, don't eat too much to avoid the restroom, don't hassle the staff 'cause whatever it is it's not their fault. You can take your own headphones in case they show a movie, or American will sell you a set for $2 you can keep.

At check in, or when switching planes, feel free to ask for directions to your gate.

Arrive at the terminal at LEAST one hour before the flight (this means the terminal, not the parking lot).

More tips on going through security: You'll likely have to take off shoes. Even tennis shoes have a metal shank that'll set if the detectors. If you have shoes that slip on (no laces) wear them at least for the flight. Get all the metal and accessories off of you person and into your carry on bag: wallet, watch, belt if the buckle is big. Keep your I.D. and boarding pass in your hands at security, don't put 'em though the x-ray machine. Laptop, if you're taking one, will have to come out of the bag.

Baggage: for carry on you are allowed one roller-type bag (or a duffel bag of similar size) and a personal item which means brief case or back pack, etc. As stated, carry on your bags if you can travel this light to save a bunch of time when you arrive. If you need larger bags and have to check them, take a carry one with basic toiletries, medication and socks/undies in case your checked baggage is delayed.

They don't allow lighters through security, so leave your Zippo at home. No pocket knives either.

If your flight is delayed to DFW, don't worry about it too much as they will re-book you on the next connecting flight. Plus, DFW is an American hub so there are lots of planes coming and going.

Oh yeah! Enjoy the time with you dad.
