Sir I'm curious how the summit heads compare to a old set of merlin grumpy jenkins 310 sq ports. I recently aquired a mild 468 that has them on.

Summit Iron BBC heads are Dart 308cc intake Iron Eagles. Decent heads, super strong but heavy as hell.

I’m running Dart iron 308’s on an older build 496. My build started 10 years ago with these heads as a bare set I bought from competition products for a steal with free shipping!

Nowadays, with so many good Chinesium affordable aluminum heads, like Promax 290’s or 317’s, I really don’t see the purpose of using these heavy iron heads unless class restricted.

And Brodix & AFR's are way higher than Promaxxs !
Yes but Brodix are made in USA and the only or one of the last companies that isnt owned by any investement group(think profiler are the only other company except Brodix that isnt bought up?). Brodix cast their own heads in their own foundry. AFR dont have a foundry and some AFR are cast in china after they was bought up. Same with Dart some of their entry level heads are now cast in China.
Promax/flotek have copied existing heads from AFR and cast them in China.

I think those Merlin heads have raised exhaust ports. That will help with the exhaust flow, but you may have to purchase special headers. I believe the Summit heads are just Dart Iron Eagles in disguise. I bet those 2 heads are about equal. I would use the Merlins and cam it accordingly.

some AFR heads are cast by Edelbrock also.

Unless something has changed, Edelbrock leadership kicked out all customers that had similar components to any of Eddy's product line. To my knowledge, no AFR have been cast in Eddy foundry since 2020.

Sir, the car is mostly complete. Missing carb and distributor. So headers are there. My guy has the polishing sneakers 427 and I used those heads on my 427. Thinking of doing a roller pump gas version of the polishing sneakers 468 that Mike had that ran 10.30 @ 3600. Should run 9.60s being 400 lighter and roller cammed.
