Thousands and thousands of years ago, I purchased three Delco service manuals. There was one for electrical systems (the "Delco 1.2" Manual), one for brakes, and one for carburetion/TBI. I was signed up to a subscription service; I got updates for those manuals once or twice a year. Those updates stopped in 1998.
While those manuals and the updates seem to be discontinued now, I've found the core of the Alternator and Starter Motor information available for free download at the Delco-Remy web site.
ANYONE who is having trouble with alternators or starters should be looking at the service manuals for the various automotive products. The following link has that, along with manuals for heavy-duty vehicle alternators and starters. There's also a wealth of single-page service tips for both starters and alternators, although most of them apply to HD vehicles.

In addition, the left side of that web page has navigation to other useful Delco-Remy information. For example, there's a wonderful basic guide to automotive electrical theory and basic test procedures available in the "Literature Download" section:
