how the **** do i do this. just an ordinary joe with some tech knowlegde. i'm sure i could think of or concoct something eventually but i figured i'd ask some chevelle owners if they have some neat tricks to maybe making this task a bit easier. from what i understand it's harder than it looks but i want to make sure i explore all methods for doing such a task before i actually attempt one...

ask any questions you need to know to help me with this BUT I NEED HELP AND HELP QUICK BECAUSE THIS CAR HAS GOTTA GET ****ING DONE SOON!

sorry for the potty mouth but i wanna start tearing some ass and i don't have time for something so mundane as this to hold me up.

You throw a body lifting party. Seriously. You invite several of your strongest friends over and have them help you lift the body off the frame. Of course, make sure you leave a free hand or two to set the body stands in place while it's being help in the air. You'll want to pull the front clip seperately, and it would help if you removed the doors and trunklid first to reduce weight, as well as having the interior stripped. But a fast job this is not. This needs to be well thought out and well planned prior to lifting the body. Take your time. If you don't have time to do it right the first time, you'll have to make time to do it right the second time.
Oh, one more thing forgot to mention. It'll cost you lots of beer and pizza!

unlike most people i accomplished the "debodying" of my chevelle completely different. first of all getting around 8 guys to help you take the body off is an accomplishment in itself being that most people dont have the time to help a buddy remove his chevelle frame and second if you all dont cooperate well you could severly damage your frame. what you need to do is rent your self a around 7 ton cherry picker and 8 inch thick straps to go around your roof. it helps to take off the back window and go through that but its not always neccasary. the front clip should be off and you should hook a come-along from the trunk to the cherry picker. make sure everything is off ex. gas tank, 8 body bolts, tranny cables, everything. it wont be easy but it worked great for me *i did do mine with my best friend so maybe a buddy would be wise

I don't reccomend lifting from the roof. Depending on the amount of rust you have, you car tear it off, warp it, warp the body etc.

It's called the Holeshot Boogie. You pull a holeshot and boogie on down the track.

Drive it like you stole it everytime, for tomorrow may never come.

It's amazing, after all this time she still runs.

The first time I lifted the body off my chevelle I jacked up. But when I put it down I used a engine hoist to let down each end. The body without everything inside weighs about 700-800lbs. Just take your time.

I lifted mine off all by myself...I used a chain fall(wench) 20 cinderblocks and 2 4x4s I first removed all body bushing bolts (only busted one) and interior stuff etc... I started by hooking up a chain w/hooks at each end at the front of the body and slooly lifted it high enough to get another set of blocks under the 4x4s.I switched from front to back till I got it five blocks high on each corner.Once finished I was able to roll the frame right out.Its still that way today.the frame is finished waiting to get new brake, gas lines and body goes back in place....be carfull.............Ed

I'm using a 1/2 ton floor jack to lift the car up. My question is before I lift the car up and sit it back down on a few pieces of wood (so that I can then lift the car up again) how exactly do I lift the car up? What do I sit the floor jack to? The car has little to no rot and very minor rust from what I can see however I'm not sure where the strong points are in the car and where the weak points are (ie: where do i put the jack underneath to raise this car)? Do i raise the whole entire car slowly or do I raise up the front, slide in the 4x4's and then do the same to the rear (or vice versa). How do I lift the car up once I have the wood between the shell and the frame rails? Do I go one section (front/rear/side)at a time slowly or do I do everything simutaneously. If you guys could go into a tad bit more description, I'd be forever in your debt. Seeing I'm going to attempt this in about 4-5 hours from now: time is of the essance.

Again, thank you for your help and cooperation on this matter. It is much appreciated

If you are using a floor jack, I don't think you can get the car up over the rear of the frame where the shock towers are. But the strong points of the car are the front 2 frame mounts and the back 2 I believe. I've got a 3 ton SUV jack that goes up to 34 inches and I still don't think I could roll my frame out from under the car. You can try it tho. Deflating your tires helps with a few inches. If you can get access to an engine hoist I'd try that over the floor jack. JMHO
