Why the 283 emblems on a 6-cylinder car? The trunk floor looks kinda sketchy - is that rust perforation I see in the center rib, or just dirt?

If it's a "frame-off" resto, why no resto process or undercarriage pics?

No VIN/Trim Tag pics, but at least they're not trying to pass it off as an SS ...

Etc. :)

No clue on price, but it looks like a nice little car from way over here on the Left Coast. ;)

Nice clean car judging from the trunk floor.

I HATE LARGE TYPE BOLD ADS WITH LOTS OF MEANINGLESS SURPERLATIVES!!

They are impossible to read and many times I don't.

I always try to imagine the buyer in 1966 or 67. I want a convert but I'm cheap and don't want to pay too much for gas so put in a six banger. I'll take the PS but no more, OK a radio but that's it.

Six cyl flags and 283 flags use the same holes IIRC. Probably just liked them better.

Yea, that does make it tough to read. I couldnt get past the first sentence. It does look like a nice car for the money.

My mental questions would be .....Just how long could I stand the 6 cyl. and why pay a premium for a car I know that I am going to replace the drivetrain at least $3-4000. So I have to buy it back of the money.

But John, why do you have to pay a Premium? I mean, you pay what you can feel comfortable paying per your income and if that means paying more than the guy over there can afford... so what... I watch guys pay a premium for Project cars just b/c they are real SS cars with NOM... and end up dumping a ton of money in them, only to get no personal enjoyment out of the car b/c it's always being restored or in the shop ...

No matter what the initial cost.. we sometimes forget to factor in the Enjoyment Value when we go to sell...ie., whether we got any enjoyment of the car during the time we owned it, no matter what we paid or put in to the car?

Not disagreeing that one has to be careful to NOT overpay... but the only premium to be paid here is: 1. Convertible.. always pay a premium for that. 2. Restored car already.

Just trying to get some discussions started is all.. :)

My statement individualized ME, not anyone else. I would rather buy this car in nice unrestored condition and modify it to my tastes as it is built. Buying a finished car that you know you are going to replace the drivetrain is overpaying for me. I have one steadfast rule.......The guy writing the checks makes the decisions. So I never question a person after he makes a deal.

So let me put it like this . This is a nice car for what it represents. No way I could ever be satisfied with a 6 cyl./PG so it would be foolish to pay all this car is worth knowing I was going to dump thousands into a drivetrain swap. Defeats the purpose for ME. The person buying the car might want to give serious thought to how pleased he will be with it down the road. If it represents everything a person wants then the time to act is now. I would reccomend driving it a good bit just to make sure. Up a steep incline would be a good place to start.

Better?:D

I think that about 20 grand as well. I think that you could surely drop a v-8 in there and still recoup the cost if you decided to sale later, but be budget conscious though. If I were to buy one like this I would have my spare 67 bb rebuilt slap it in there and drive baby drive!!

I truly believe that adding a BBC along with a 5/6 speed is not a waste of money and can be recuperated during a re-sale. These items add to the convertible fun factor on this car. Just pay attention to details when making the changes.

i noticed the tab that is welded on for the spare tire hold down hook is missing. maybe the trunk was replaced. i just replaced mine and have to add that part before final trunk painting just my observation. needs a big block too then it would be worth much more and be fun to drive. car as is under $20K.

In this discussion, like so many others, there is one very important thing missing.......the actual money it will take to buy the car. Until that is determined nothing else really matters.

Bidding kinda slow at this point but several days left. I think if I was interested in the car I would be in contact with the owner. His reserve may be a great value no matter what you do with it once it gets home. Let the auction run its course and you never know what might happen. If the reserve is out of context it allows you to move on.

This car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Personally there is nothing special about this driver type car other than the fact that it's a convertible. If the body was done correctly, and if the frame is solid, than I think it's a good start for a resto mod, hot rod, clone type project and has value. However if the intent of the owner was to restore it for what it was, then it was not even close.
I would think all the wrong, and missing parts hurt the value for the collector that is on the lookout for a 6cyl, P/G, 10bolt 67 vert. Just a few things I noticed:
Wrong tires and wheels (15 inch)
Wrong and missing ext trim
Missing trim on door panels and color of panels
Yellowing plastic chrome armrests and poor job on covers
Yellowing vent pulls
Wrong battery
Wrong seat belts (airplane?)
Condition of top
To put that car back to it's original condition would add lots to the final cost. I don't think it will get near 20K

Are those pop rivets on the VIN tag? I hate the look of the reproduction front fenders, although I understand that they have to be used sometimes.
Decent looking car but I dont see $20000

So the final bid ended just under 18K.
If the owner were to fix some of the detail issues, invested and installed in a period correct 327ci. and sold the 6 with the car perhaps the bidding could top 20K. The current engine must have turned off a lot of potential buyers.

Just talked to owner. A really nice guy. Takes $18,500 to buy car. Anybody interested in an entry level car at a good price better get hoofing. Owner say only thing that needs touched is the top shows some discoloration but no tears.

This is how you find out something about a car........you talk to the owner. Not rely on some lame brain EBay auction and watch a good buy sail off into the sunset.

Owner says he is only selling car because he cannot afford two. He sounded very humbling on the phone and if i was looking this post would not exist as I would be hunting somebody to look at the car today.

Do a budget BB swap, motor, Tranny, radiator, springs, exhaust, disc brakes, etc. and be in at $25K or less . Should bring $22,500 ever day of its life. $2500 is not a loss it is a project with less bleeding. A jazzed up SB gets you in even cheaper.

I think we are seeing some posts where the OP is creating the illusion of buying a car only to interact with the group and no intention of action. If all you do is come here and talk it along you are not real serious about buying a car. :noway:
