I'm getting a block ready to pour Hard Blok and fill to the bottom of the water pump holes to build a 505. I was going to build a 532 but I can't justify the block cost for the amount of racing I do to spend 4k for a block. First, I know how to to level the block, it must be clean, I know how to get it to settle and get the air out, and plan on doing one side let it set a few weeks then do the other side before any machine work starts.

My questions are do I need to torque the mains ? If so do I need to do it with the studs I'm going to use instead of the stock main bolts ?

I know the freeze plugs and any other water jacket plugs need to be installed . Am I missing anything ?

this will not be driven on the street so no issues with oil getting to hot..

thanks, Gary

Don't fill it to the bottom of the hole run it down about 3/8". Have you bought the hardblok?

Make sure you use Durabond CHP 12 coated cam bearings.
Yep, here's the whole build plan.. Molnar crank and 6.385 rods, Mahle 48cc pistons and there ring pack, Use my Canton kick out pan billet oil pump,.. Going to use my AFR 315 heads, 454r intake and dominator off my 496. Park my 496 short block as a back up. I'm going to get the heads flowed and milled down to about 118cc get the compression up to 14 to 1 and get solid roller cut for this engine.
hoping for 800hp anything more would be a plus..

You will lose flow milling 3 CCs out of the heads, you want a 2.300 intake valve with the 4.350 bore, remember our 505 making 950 HP? it was 13.1 compression.

Embeco 885 iron aggregate non shrinking grout.
It was 1987 when we did my dad’s 4.35 bore 3.76 stroke 447. Went to the tile store and bought bags of white grout and did it in the garage. We filled it to just below the water pump holes.

I went thur and read this, thanks for the link.. Very impressive results... I'll not be milling the heads, but will do a 2.30 intake valve.. I also wont be going to TI valves, not in the budget this go round. I know I won't get the same results as you but I think I can meet my goal. Gotta get this old 55 in the 5's... thanks again for the advice and direction to go on the heads...
