So here it goes for the troubleshooters. I start my 454 tonight for the first time after the rebuild. It has great oil pressure and is running at about 220 degrees. All of a sudden the starter decides to engage. I turn the ignition switch off but the engine keeps running and the starter remains engaged. I unhook the battery and it shuts down. As it shuts down I can here the starter winding down. If I go to start it again I don't even have to take the ignition swith over to the starter position. At the run position the starter engages and the engine starts with the starter still going. I have to again unhook the battery to get the engine and starter to shut down. Any Ideas?
Thanks
Tom

Figured out what happened. Header heat actually melted the starter wires together engaging the starter. Is there a heat shield you can get for the wires?
Thanks
Tom

I dont know if one is specifically made for cars with headers, but originally the factory had heat shields on them. I have seen some people use special "tape" like material to wrap the header to keep the heat away from the starter.

First of all let me say this, DO NOT use any type of "Tape" or header wraps on your headers, unless you like rusted headers! Use a starter heat shield instead.
