I have a 65 Chevelle SS 327 (+.040)with headers/edelbrock intake/etc... a new Mallory Unilight dist.and Mallory coil, and Taylor Spiro Pro 8mm .

Should I add a MSD to system? I really don't know anything about them. By adding one do you really notice a difference? And are they worth the money?
Is there a tech ref. that will show how it all wires together?
Thanks in advance.
Jack

Yes, MSD is worth every penny. A 6AL would work great on your car. It would give you better engine starts and it would also increase engine spark for better fuel efficincy.
MSD has a web page with a tech. section if you have any problems or need any info. You get a full diagram on how to hook it up as well.
BTW I did have all Mallory until it cost me a few no shows on the starting line. All MSD for me from now on.

i really like my msd6al. it also gives you a longer spark duration 20deg (i believe) and alows you to gap a little wider for better burning. the 6al is basically for sticks, it allows you to set an rpm level just in case you miss a gear it doesn't over rev. mine has been very dependable, good investment.

Hey Jack,
I have two MSDs; a 6AL with a MSD billet distributor in my 61 Corvette, and a MSD module and coil in a new HEI in my 65 Chevelle SS. Both made a big difference in each car. Instant starts, better mileage, etc. etc. Well worth the $$. mgg

Mike, after seeing your car I can see how important your starts are. Great looking car! With my mild little 327 automatic, hopefully my Mallory system at least gets me around town. Don't need any problems.
John, thanks for the info.
Manny, a 61 Vette and a Chevelle. Nice toys..

Another vote for the MSD-6AL... love the rev limiter. But it also immediately cured a problem I'd been having with soaking plug with gas after idling for a few minutes. Old tech or not, a very good piece...
One funny thing I noticed years ago is that after cruising for a couple hours I can hear it buzzing. Wonder if anyone else ever noticed that?

john6066,

I don't understand what you mean by the 6al is basically for sticks. Maybe you have never raced with an automatic. I run a manual valve body TH350, and it is pretty easy to miss a shift if you aren't paying attention.

Another big benefit I see (besides the others mentioned here by everyone) is during a burnout. Once the tires are spinning, you can hit the rev limiter REAL QUICK!

Glad this question stimualted some conversation. I guess the MSD 6Al is the one to use. I think I'll buy one and see how it works out for my automatic TH-350 /327.
Worse case, I'll just sell it if it doesn't work out.
Thanks,
Jack
