I have removed the pinion shaft lock screw and noticed that it looks broken with the machined pin part gone off the end of the bolt. I tried to look down in the hole to see if it is still in there but can't see anything. When I put a small screwdriver down in the hole, it feels like it is pushing against the pinion shaft, and it measures like it is going in the depth that would go all the way to the shaft without obstruction. The pinion shaft is easy to move slightly by hand but will not come out even when hit with a hammer.
Any suggestions?

does the shaft come out above the edge of the case? if it does'nt there still is a piece of the pin still in there.try a small pen magnet and try to turn it out.if the pin comes above the edge of the case the outer part of the pin my have a burr on it from chucking back and forth. thats what caused the pin to break.good luck red

another guy on here had the same problem.........take the biggest hammer you got and something solid and smake that mother hard.........the pin will then slide out.......the pin lock screw is hard metal it will break apart......lol as you already found out......just finish the job with a hammer..........

now if you want to take longer to get it out then you can drill a small pilot hole into the remaining screw and take a fine machinist screw driver (philups) and pound it into the small hole and then you can just turn it out.......make sure you kinda center up the pin so you take the load off the locking screw so it backs out easy.............
