I will be putting a new ZZ427 in my 138 BB 4 spd 67 Chevelle that has the original BB stands and I’m going crazy trying to figure out which oil pan, motor mounts and headers to use. I’ve read countless posts on the problems trying to install this combination and having to massage the headers with a torch to get them to fit. Talking to some of the vendors they claim their product fits and then I read on this site that they didn’t. I understand that many problems may be from wrong stands and mounts. The 396 I took out of my car had headers that fit pretty good (not sure of brand) and I tried them on the 427 and they would not clear the head bolts. Then I’ve read that some of the ones that clear the head bolts can’t be used on aluminum heads..?? Jegs recommended Hooker 2455-1 but members on this site say they hang to low..???
As for the pan are some of these problems due to adding a pan that has a larger capacity than the stock 4 qt passenger? Is the 4 qt pan enough for this engine? I asked the tec from Jegs and he told me the pan that came with the engine should be fine and we all know that is no true for a 67 and then he recommends the Milodon 30955.
The motor mounts Jegs said would be the best were energy suspension3-1114G
My car is ready for the transplant but not knowing exactly what to order I have a bad feeling that I’m going to be sending a lot of parts back at my expense. Would appreciate any direction, thanks
Ken
