Well, it looks like I'm going to be moving some time this month. I'm gonna be moving into a back house and I need to quiet down the 'Velle. I did some post searching, and pretty much everyone says that the Summit Turbos are the way to go. I really don't want to give up my "noise," but I also don't wanna p*ss off any neighbors :D I'm not "in the market" to buy any expensive mufflers, so I guess the Summit mufflers would probably be the best way to go. My only question is, are they restrictive? I know my car isn't exactly "fast" compared to a lot of you guys out there, but, I don't wanna buy mufflers if they're gonna slow my car down. If the restriction is minimul where I probably wouldn't notice it, then I guess I'd be ok with it. But, if I'd see/feel a difference and notice slower times (yes I know I've only been to the track once :p ), then I don't wanna go that route.

So basically, are the Summit Turbo mufflers the "best choice?" Or is there something better within the same price range?

Also, are there any mufflers out there that are quiet at idle but get louder when you step on it? Not to sound "stupid or 'cocky'", but, I don't want my car to sound like a "wimp" either :p I know "wimpy" sounding cars can be sleepers, but right now, I'm into the "ballzy" sound. Ok, I think I'm typing to much now and don't wanna get off topic.

I have no experience with the Summits, but I installed a Flowmaster American Thunder system with the original Flowmaster mufflers a few months ago and it's just like you say: pretty quiet (but nice sounding) at idle and agressive when you stomp on it. Pretty cool. Like you, I live in a residential area where i don't want to p*$$ my neighbors off, so I just idle my way out of it with only a little gas. It's so quiet that I can leave with the Chevelle at 11pm without feeling bad about it. My dad said that he heard me stomp on it in the distance aproximately 5 minutes after i left. Must have been the wind. :D ;)

I ran those on a 13 second bbc and they have a nice deep tone. Somewhat quiet, but not too much. I think you'll like them for $19 a side!

Hey Gene, you're talking about the Summit mufflers right?

yes the cheap $19 ones, NOT the fully welded ones at $35.

WARNING: They are ( or were ) directional. The mope @ "national chain muffler shop" I paid $75 cash to fab/weld up the simple sytem for me didn't see that.( nor did I ) Once the 427 went in, it wasn't the second or third blast to 7300 rpm that caused the backwards one to start to rattle. Must have blown a baffle out or two!

I liked them. Simple system, no crossover, turndowns before rear axle. It was fine. Not bad for a $125 total welded up deal. ( bought the muffs and 2.5" pipe from Summit, had long reducers + $75) Given my experience, they might be a bit quiet with a crossover. I found their tone nice and low and good and loud at WOT. Especially after the L88 blew one's arse out its snout! :D

I just put on the summit turbos a couple weeks ago and I really like them. They are not very loud at idle (but they are certainly not as quiet as any other car at the stop light) and they really do get a very nice tone under acceleration. One thing, are they directional? I didn't see any markings on them, and they looked identical from either end, so that indicated to me that they were not directional, but if they are, that would be a good thing to know.

Can't beat the price for the summit's.

If I do go ahead with the Summit Turbos, I'll I'm going to do is buy the mufflers and have them installed. I've already got dual 2 1/2" pipes with a "custom" muffler shop made X pipe. If money wasn't an issue, I'd go ahead and just buy mandrel bent pipe, mandrel bent X pipe, and go all the way to the bumper. But unfortunatly, I'll I can afford right now is just the mufflers and installation, which I hope isn't going to be too much.

I run those hemi turbo's that they talk about in the article. They have just a slight rumble at idle and are quieter cruising down the road. I do pick up .4 in Et and 4 MPH by taking them off.
