A check ball in the solenoid? That doesn't make sense. When you remove the solenoid, there should be a spool valve and spring, no ball. Check balls are on the other side of the valve body. Unless your talking about the check ball under the 1-2 accumulator, which you also would not remove to replace the solenoid.

No idea man, the check ball popped out when I removed the 1-2 solenoid. I did not put it back in and all seems to be working fine but I am perplexed as to where the hell it came from. The screen was also missing from the solenoid.

I left the check ball out and put the new solenoids in and she shifts like a dream. I hope I have not hurt it with leaving the ball out.
