There have be numerous discussions on here about the high cost of headers and the fact that a lot of them don't fit. Lots of people just get out the hammer and start whaling.
Well today I got a glimpse of why some of this happens. I'm having trrouble with the driver side header on my 67. The heads are the aluminum fast burn type and have a raised exhaust runner. The tube from #1 cylinder is hitting the front frame member as it dives down to join up with the other tubes hits before the motor setttles on the frame adapter. The headers are Stahl and are pricey so I called, sent digital pictures and today they called and asked me to send the header back for revision.
We talked about the problem and Judy Stahl said they have been making the small block headers the same for 64 through 72 and never got a cpmplaint.
Now we know there are some differences in the 68 and up cars. This made me think about all the complaints of headers not fitting and a light went off. Nobody is calling these people about the problems, not just Stahl but the other makers. Stahl has been in the header business for what, more that 30 years and never got a complaint??
Could it be we are willing to accept the myth that headers are not going to fit all that well so why bother??
Just a small rant, sorry!!!

There is nothing like rowing through the gears at 7500. Stick cars are so much fun they should be a controlled substance!
