Ok can someone please help me out here. I'm looking for yellow primer in a spray paint can. I've looked everwhere here and all I can find is black, white or gray primer. I just recently had my 68 el camino primered with PPG K-200 yellow primer and now I'm block sanding it and need to touch up a few bare metal spots. If anyone knows where I could find yellow primer in a spray paint can please respond. Maybe is there a website or something out there I could order online from? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Michael,

How have you been?

This is Jim from AZ. Its been quite some time since I heard from you on your El Camino project.

I can't answer your spray can primer question, but I can tell you NOT to use a spray can primer on your bare metal spots. You will have rust in no time. If you are block sanding it, spray some DP50. You shouldn't have K200 over bare metal either. In place of K200, I sprayed NCP270. Its a great PPG primer surfacer that sands much easier than K200.

Good Luck,

I have sprayed K200 over bare metal without any problems. I make sure I can block the next day, because the longer it sits the more rock hard it gets. You should really get the K200 sprayed over your problem spots and reblock the areas to do it right.

Ok, but where could I find some yellow primer in a spray paint can that closely matches the yellow color of the PPG K-200????

There isn't any to my knowledge. The closest thing would be to go your local NAPA store and have them mix some tintable primer. Buy the reducer and hardener. Then, buy one of those glass bottles that screw onto an aresol sprayer. Mix the paint, put in sprayer and shoot. Probably cost you about......?????...$50-60 though. Or buy the PPG primer and do the same. If it's primer, who cares what color it is? Don't you plan on painting it?

I know some of the local paint and auto body supply shops in my area can take some paints and put them in an aerosol can for the purchaser. It is expensive per can, and of course they can not do 2 part type paints that need catalysts etc.You may want to check with your local paint distributor.

I agree with ken, I've had it done and its about $13 per can but it was custom mached color and quality paint. can't complain

Good luck
