Just for fun, if money was no object, and you could use any builder, what would your dream engine be? Mine would be:

509 Big Block Chevy (4.5x4.0)
Dart Big M Aluminum block with minor CNC lightening done to it. If there is a billet block out there that is lighter, I'd potentially go that route.
10.5-10.7:1 CR
Coated pistons (skirts and top)
6.535 Rods
Forged 4.00 crankshaft
AFR 315, or AFR 305 custom ported (see Crazy Davey heads)
Titanium valves
Tool Steel or maybe Titanium retainers
Shaft Mounted Rockers. I'd want stainless steel ones.
Custom billet HR camshaft (probably mid 240s @.050 and .630-650 lift)
Isky Gold Series bushed lifters
Edelbrock Victor Jr 454-R EFI Intake Manifold - port matched to the heads
Holley 1000 cfm MPFI throttle Body
80# Injectors and supporting fuel rails
Holley Dominator ECU
8 coil packs
MSD Crank Trigger
Jesel Timing Belt
ATI Balancer
I would LOVE to go dry sump, but I suspect that'd be hard to fit in a stock Chevelle
Maybe a vacuum pump
Lemons custom 2x3.5 ceramic coated Headers with o2 sensors on each one.

700+ hp @ 6200ish
Easy to drive
Reliable
Efficient
Weighs around 500 lbs.

Don’t have to dream. There’s one for sale in the classifieds for 13k I believe. New. But about 15:1 comp.
the 15:1 makes that engine a tough sell. But it's a really good deal IMO.

For my "realistic" needs and wants on my car, I'd go LS, ideally a N/A Z06 427. Otherwise a torque monster 454 that would pull like a locomotive from
Off idle to 3500 RPM. Think Buick GS Stage 1, only better yet.

Just remember, you asked. This draws inspiration from Germany's DB-610 used in WWII

2 Chevy big blocks, at least 525ci. 4 bolt mains
flat top light weight pistons
nitrided rotating assembly
both supercharged, preferably with twin 4 barrel carbs
custom headers
all driving a common gear box

When someone asks what size engine I have, I really want to be able to tell them at least 1000 cubic inches. Problem is it would be extremely difficult to actually fit it in anything.

i bought Crazy Daveys heads [rip], put a 700 lift hyd roller in my 509 and made 786 hp .

I'd send my current 383 SBC off to Mark Jones....or buy one of his 600/600 467 BBC builds....but insist that he ship the motor back to me with Jennifer Aniston driving the truck and feeling the need to make a White Snake Video on a Frost Green '69 Malibu.

I just built one of my "bucket list" engines, a low compression 572 for my `90 3500 Chevy Dually.

It's been on the dyno already and exceeded at least one of my expectations, and will almost positively be going back on another dyno so I can do the header/exhaust testing that I wanted to do the 1st time but couldn't because there wasn't room in the dyno cell.

(FWIW, I don't plan on posting the build here)

I have a couple more builds in the planning and early parts procurement stages, but they'll probably be at least a year or more out from now.

588ci short deck for stock hood clearance.

super deck, 650-700ci for fun.

really a Chevy semi hemi from sonny would be radical!

I've mirrored very closely much of your wish list build with what I have so far:

565 Big Block Chevy (4.6'x4.25")
Dart Big M Aluminum block 9.8" deck with billet main caps p/n 31264644
Wiseco 4.600" bore coated pistons (yield roughly 10.8:1 CR)
Total Seal Gapless top rings
6.535" Callies Ultra Rods
Callies Magnum 4.25" crankshaft
AFR 315CNC Heads prepped by Mark Jones
T&D Steel (lightened) Shaft Mounted Rockers.
Isky Hydraulic Roller Cam 246°/248° @ 0.050" lift, 0.680"/0.632" lift spec'd by Mike Lewis
Isky HYRT3975 Bushing lifters
Hogan's Fabricated Sheet Metal Intake w/Holley 105mm Throttle Body
72# Injectors and supporting fuel rails
Holley Dominator ECU
Holley CNP coil packs
ATI custom 60-2 trigger shell Super Damper
XTC91000 XCELEDYNE ELITE BELT DRIVE
Lemons Inside-the-chassis 2-1/8 x 3.5 ceramic coated headers with provisions for O2 sensors on each side.

Wow, incredible build. Has it been on the dyno or to the track?

I wanted to build a 4.5 bore space engine ... but then I realized I dont want to have a rollbar in my car ever and what fun would it be half throttling at the drag strip. The way it is my 10:1 454 can lite the tires at 50mph

Unfortunately, it has not. My El Camino has been in Covid Paint Jail due to staffing issues at the shop so progress has been stalled for the better part of three years! It's now back on the schedule for mid March so I'm cautiously optimistic. The pics were taken in my garage several years ago and it is quite a bit further along. The body will be going back on the rotisserie for the final body/paint work and the shop will reinstall it back on the chassis, hang the doors/weather stripping, tail gate, fenders/inner fenders/core support and install the glass etc. The list of things to do seems to be never ending but I suppose I'll survive the journey. This is not a trailer/garage queen and it will be driven but more than likely not a track vehicle.
