I posted a thread on Team Nova trying to find my old 1972 Nova and someone decided to help. I just don't trust it since it's not the person who owns the car. If it was me and somebody asked me about a car I owned/own I don't think I would be very happy being contacted by someone trying to buy my car that is not for sale. Part of me says what the heck and the other tells me to drop it and to be happy the old girl is still around. What would you do?

Read the thread over there. Very cool. I agree with the others: give him a call.. there is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Why not? Everybody with an old car has heard a story like that. I don't think many of us would be shocked (or offended) to hear from a previous owner.

Just tell him you're broke and want it for your granny to drive to church.

***EDIT**

I tracked my old malibu down a few years ago. The guy was really nice and we had a good ol time telling stories.

Turned out he had sent it to the crusher about 6 months before I showed up.:(

I just did this with my Fathers 70 Charger. I sold it in 2004 and got a bug to find out where it is and try to get it back. After a few months of searching I contacted the currant owner by Email and he responded. Talked at length over the phone and struck up a friendship. No its not for sale as of yet but I am first on the list. By the way the car is gorgeous.:hurray:

That's about what it would end up as. When I originally posted about my old Nova I was looking for another project and finding my old car would be great, but since then I've picked up a '67 Mustang and ’67 XR7 Cougar so money is very tight. Trading is out of the question since I learned to keep what you have and never sell a car you would miss. This car taught me this lession so I still miss it. According to the last PM I received from the car finder today the car is located 300 miles from me and the current owner is in Winnemucca, NV. He told me the guy wants to talk to me about the Nova but not that it’s for sale, etc…. Thanks guys I’ll give it a call this weekend.

Looking forward to hearing how things go with the guy. Its cool to read about stories like this, even if the car is not for sale, thats not always a bad thing, its cool just to know the car still exists.

Your car is in Winnemuca, NV, according to the VIN you posted. How far is that from Reno? If you're not comfortable with contacting the guy out of the blue, why not just see what the car show schedule is in that area and take a weekend trip. Chances are you'll probably see it.

off topic, but after I sold my 71 nova for $5000 I found it on craigslist 6 months later for $6500. jim

It's 300 miles from Reno, and is a little town with a population of 8002. It’s a very small town….

Definitely call him!
I've tried to call and it seems to be a hunting lodge; when I ask for the person who has the car they tell me they know him but he's not here very often. I did leave a message.
