Sky's the limit here folks. What would YOU build? You can go with exotic and rare, or screw together a budget motor. Only condition is it has to be do-able. And it doesn't have to be this one. This is just mine...

I've been thinking about the Oldsmobile 350 Diesel lately. Parameterically, it's very close to the SBC 350. 4.057 X 3.385 to be exact. High nickel content, and THICK cylinder walls. Compared to gas 350s, the diesel has 3.0" mains, so it's possible to stuff a big block Olds 425 crank (3.975") in it, and bore it as big as 4.25", but that's not what I'd do...

Rod journals are 2.12, which means cutting them down to the smaller 2.0" SBC rod journal, with an offset grind of course, could easily give you an even 3.48 stroke. 6" rods would reside here, and seeing as deck height is 9.33, zero deck is only .030 away with a regular SBC 350 pin height. To use a readily available piston, I'd go with a 4.155 bore. So I'm ending up building an Oldsmobile version of a 377 SBC.

Big block heads will work (bigger ports) with a Performer RPM, and they have bigger valves. 2.07 intake uses a 30 degree seat, but there is minimal shrouding so it should flow well. The exhaust valve is a little 1.62, which would get replaced by a Pontiac 1.77 (need more exhaust flow when you're going to spray the hell out of it :D ) Compared to the SBC 23 degree heads, the olds has almost no valve angle, I'd be surprised if it's over 5 degrees, so there's less of a turn for the exhaust too. With the 80cc chamber, static compression is 9.68 to 1.

I suspect that this motor would be almost bulletproof. Just need to figure out valve notches, and which valves to use. Too many vacuum lines on this '307' would also help to finish the image, and hide the nitrous at the same time.

If I could build something and start from scratch it would be a 70 SS454 to compete in the FAST class
Image
ET goal would be mid 11's with manifolds and bias repro tires..
In reality though,I'm happy with my car..hope the newly installed 3.31's will get me into the 12.8X's (at least for a best)
Nice to have a basically stock musclecar that runs low 13's/high 12's with mild gear

..building another 13-12 second car would be fun too..I have a couple of turnkey, running big blocks laying around, including a nice Olds 455

i just got an idea a commercially sold nitrous system that looks like a ton of vacume lines. no flashy braided stainless and anodized fittings. your buddies will never know you have a 250 shot of gas on your smog era look alike motor.

I'd build a 357 chevy SB with a holley 950 commander EFI and a banks twin turbo setup, AFR heads, ceramic coated piston tops [valves, chambers etc.], forged bottom, total seal rings, the best of everything to a viper 6 speed to a 9" ferd with 3.80 gears and the biggest tires I could fit in a minitubbed '71 chevelle heavy chevy clone sunset orange/pearl white; black leather interior with polished aluminum diamond plate accents.

Ok, a dream car, hmmmm

70 Chevelle, SS454 Conv, hard loaded - air, pwr everything, with a not common color - something subtle (maybe dark green with black stripes and a dark green interior and black top).

502 BB with fuel injection, 5 speed (or maybe a 4 speed out of a cup car), 9" f*@d with detroit 3,73 gears, big sway bars, fast ratio box, biggers brakes-all wheel discs, 16" rallies with rings and derby caps, some very hi-end tires, basically everything I could throw at it to make handle real good. Oh yeah and finally some tunes.

A very cleam stock appearing car, that is not flashy but a total blast to drive. Plus it would mighty fun to pull up beside some of the newer "cough" fast "cough" cars. BY BY BABY!!!!

My idea of a great time

Hmmm.... I would definately build a 70-72 Chevelle, 540 cid, ~10.5:1 comp, Forged bottom end, KB pistons, Brodix 2-Xtra heads, full CNC ported, Crane Cam .632"/.632", Team G intake, Holley 1250cfm carb, 200 shot N20, just in case. Either a built M22 or a T56 (or similar OD trans), Ford 9" with 4.10's if the M22 and 4.56's with the OD. 4Wheel Bear discs, Centerline 15X10's rear, 15X8's up front, MT ET streets rear, BFG up front (blackwalls showing.) Rolled lips in rear and possible mini tub to get the biggest possible tire I can in there. Patriot 2" tube headers, 3" Mandrel bent exhaust with Dynomax ultra flo bullet mufflers.

Stock interior with buckets and console. Outside it would be Viper Red with black stripes. BC/CC.

Would it be practical? Nope, so the plate would be 4GPM (gallons per mile)?

As said on Dream Car garage:" Do you need a car like this, well no, but do you want a car like this, Hell Yes!"

Too bad I am a few $$$ short,
EDIT: I did a quick price together, and I am 15802.82 short :( Maybe next decade.

Love to have two cars.

First one would be a 588" motor clone of Big Red!

Second would be a '60's type hopped up '66 Duece, L-79 motor, four speed, posi for rpm's!! A giant killer of old sorta deal

But will have to settle for just getting my car on the road until my ship comes in.. He, He!!

id just love to redo the suspension on my chevelle, make it handle like a g-machine but look stock. Put a 5spd in it (4+1) and posi, get a fully assembled 502, paint it chevy orange, put a bigger cam in it, and i'd be all set.

of course this is on my to-do list after 4 yrs of college and getting a job

Tall deck Dart small block, 4.125" bore 4.000" stroke for 427" I'd use Crower lightweight crank, 6.200" rods and flat top pistons.

Heads would be AFR high port 210's with Jessel offset shaft rockers. Would cut the heads down enough to 12.5:1 compression for race gas.

Valvetrain would Crower roller lifters and solid roller cam right about 255*/262* @ 050, .630" lift, 108* LSA.

Induction would be Brodix single plane manifold fitted with injectors and a carb style throttle body (like an 850 Demon with the boosters removed).

1-3/4" long tube headers and 3" full length exhaust.

Should run over 600 HP on the motor and low 10's in the quarter mile with good street manners.

Combo of old school with a modern suspension...

34 Ford ( with fenders and boards ) with a N/A 392 Hemi, Homemade intake either an inline 2x4 or 3x2 , 11-1 comp , an old period correct cam like an Isky 505T Mechanical Roller ( .531 , 290 , 248 @ .050 108 LSA ) A Don Zig or simular Vertex Style Mag , mechanical tach ... A/T with approx 3000 stall and a narrowed Dana 60 with some 4.30's....some old slot or maybe some early style Torque Thrusts... ect .... something streetable ,with enough power and light enough to run 10's .

A little more practical view here. Talking muscle cars and using my Chevelle as a baseline. I think a late model high tech powerplant transplant would be great - something like the 6.0 litre Vortech or maybe even the 8.1 litre c/w Centrifugal Supercharger and 4L80 trans dropped into a high end restored chassis and including a complete suspension upgrade. While you are at it, a complete interior redone in color and pattern correct leather.

Don't get me wrong, I like rumpity cams and big cube motors, but a car done like above could be driven 20,000 miles a year.

67 Camaro RS,

Gforce manual trans,

Dart Big Chief headed 632 motor
400 Shot Nitrous

Basically 66 283's engine in a Camaro with a stick :D

1969 Camaro SS (red)

Either 582 BBC with AFR 357s or a Mopar HEMI with a set of Allen Johnson aluminum heads, or somethin pretty radical
10-71 to 14-71 BDS supercharger
Either a trick EFI or mechanical fuel injection
Would like to have some kind of Methanol/Gasoline system that could do 100% alcohol, 100% gasoline, or maybe a mix.
Solid Roller cam. ~276/282@.050, .780/.800"
Lemons 2 1/4" ceramic coated headers, 4" to 3.5" stepped exhuast with side exit before the rear tires (probably ovaled for ground clearance). Either custom mufflers or a set of Dynomax Bullets.
TH400
9" rearend with 35 spline axles and a Detroit Locker. ~3.70 gear, depending what kind of RPM it was turning.
4 link suspension.
About a 33x22.5 Quick Time Pro on a set of Convo Pro rims. Skinnies up front, also on Convo Pros.
Small airfoil on the rear for stability
NHRA legal cage and parachute.

I'd also like an N/A 582 BBC with Big Dukes or Big Chief heads and a G-force or Jerico 5 speed in a lightweight Chevy.

I'd also like 69 Camaro with a 427 sbc, a TKO-600 or T56, and 315 or 335 17" wheels.

I need to be rich :(
