Adjust you timing by 2 degree higher and go run the car hard. If it does not ping than adjust again by 2 degree. Keep adjusting untill it pings when you are running it hard, then back the timing down by 2-3 degree. You can also replace the springs and weights to get better timing. You can purchase a spring and weight kit from most auto part place. I can usually get 4-8 degree over stock. You can also play with the heat range of your plugs to get more timing and better take off responese. My 71 Chevelle like 1-2 degree over stock hotter plugs,but I was told to go colder on the plugs. My car does not like colder plugs. Hope that helps.
